Magical Cottage Thrifting Weekend

IMG_4237

I've been on the lookout for a coffee perculator forever.  It had to check some boxes though – predominantly white, a good price, preferably vintage CorningWare (did you know this stuff was first produced for America's Space Program, so love that) and most importantly a good bubbly sound.  A fly-by visit to Salvos today and I found it.  I clutched it longingly, it was clean, hardly used, white, couldn't tell about the bubbliness.

There was one sticking point, I was in the store with the Woman With The Hat and the price labels that are way out there and say things like 'an oldie'.

I made my morning coffee in it this morning, I was so excited, it bubbled deliciously, I felt all housewife-ish and was humming a little tune as I poured.  I spent all day thinking about Corning Ware, and space travel, the nostaligic feel of the pot bubbling on the stovetop rather than plugging it in.  And I googled and Ebayed Corning Ware.  Alot.  I now know quite a bit about Corning Ware and I think I'll be looking out for it in my thrifting adventures…that's why I love love love treasure hunting for vintage goods, the huge thrill of the chase and a score like this makes over-the-moon happy.

Another busy weekend bites the dust and I've had one of the Beach Cottage kiddos sick hence not much stuff going on with the blog.  We had a barbecue yesterday, yep the weather Down Under is hotting up so while y'all are thinking of rugging up we are peeling off..bring it on. I enjoyed the foofying of the table and I played around with some invites, menus and placecards on the computer – I'll blog it all tomorrow, I'm still looking after a sick little kiddo today.

I scored a great find a pair of gorgeous finials for a dollar.  I have a bit of a thing for finials but finding ones that tick the boxes of my budget and my taste is often a trifle tricky.  So I snatched these up (loving the little bit of aged rust), knowing exactly where they were going…I'm really pleased with how they've turned out, funny how little things can pull together a room.
