Vintage Shabby Old Chair

IMG_4993

This is that chair I found last week, it was shabby and full of a past life somewhere else and of course it was in my budget and I dunno it just seemed to need to come home with me to the Beach Cottage…  I thought about my usual white painted treatment but decided to keep it dark, and keep the shabby old ruffled seat rather than ripping it off and starting afresh…

Tomorrow I am going hunting, I don't know what I will find but I need to get out and about, you know when you get like that?  I know it and I need it.

Oh and today on a flyby visit, guess what I scored, a box of six vintage pale blue Christmas baubles…oh my Lord, I have had my eye out for any kind of old dec for like a century…to find it here, this morning, when I least expected it yet again fuelled my thrifting love

Christmas Decorating Beach Cottage Style

IMG_4957

Errrm I could get used to this kinda Christmas decorating.  Walking past a hook and looping a bauble over it.  Mmmm yeah.  Very stress free, very Beach Cottage.  This was about the most I did today, hung this one bauble on this rusty old hook.  I think that's funny really.  Of course I did do all those other things we seem to do and think are nothing…

I did go back to the docs, and I am officially "well", good blood results, good this, good that.  I sat there and said I am not impressed.  What? he exclaimed.  Well if there is nothing wrong matey why on earth do I feel like **** and can't get my leg out of the bed in the morning or lift my arm to hang the washing on the line?  I think it could well be the fault of your husband and your 3 children.  What the **** do they have to do with it?  Classic case of worn-out mummy, I'll issue you a 'Domestic Help Certificate'. Ho ho ho and chuckled to himself.  He thought he was clever and funny.  I eyed him strongly…thinking he was neither clever or even remotely funny.  Give me some Penicillin matey and when I don't feel better I'll be back.

A Christmas Loveheart

IMG_4950

Simple little hearts here and there, ribbon tied around the odd thing, a few sparse candles and a very bare tree.  Hmmm nice paired-back look to combine quite nicely with a beachy-white theme.

These stripe lovehearts are my first dabble with a simple but beachy look..I will when I go to the mall look out for a little silver bell to tie round their necks but actually I think the glittery bauble is pretty and certainly this is the more budget friendly option as I already have 'em.

The Lamp & Christmas Decs

IMG_4933

IMG_4939

G'day all you lovelies.  Hope you had a good weekend of play and rest.  I didn't get much of either done, I did lots of thinking about Christmas and some work in the garden.  That was about it.  Mr Beach Cottage unwillingly got the decorations out of the garage for me, mumbling something about it being the second week of November.  Men.  When will they get it I ask?  Anyhow I do know it is possibly a tad early but I've a lot on my plate the next few weeks, one of those oh-so-busy weekends coming up this weekend, so I thought I'd start getting a few Holiday things out…not that I am going mad this year with Christmas decorating anyway, as we leave for the Whitsundays for a long-overdue three week holiday on the 20th December so won't be here much to enjoy them.

I thought my newly-purchased lamp might be a good starting point for a little Christmassy vignette – some beads round the mirror, shabby old vintage baubles and a candle tied with some white pom-poms trim.

I just wanted to say too, I am still, yes still, under the weather, so I am doing little more than a bit of blogging, sorry if you are awaiting an email reply and I am just not making it to my normal lovely blog gals and commenting, but I am reading.  I'm not really being the best friend to anyone at the moment, I'm just about keeping all the normal balls up in the air and that's it, you know those balls that if one drops the whole of life goes into meltdown?  This has now been going on for getting on a month now and with the upcoming few weeks, I am wondering if I should get myself to the doctors?  I don't like to do that too often, I would rather my body tried to heal itself, ya know, but really now this is getting a trifle ridiculous.

So what do you think of the lamp?  It looked much smaller than it is when I bought it, but when I got it into the Beach Cottage I was like, oh, right, it's nice and big.  Ideally I would like to place this by the leather sofas for a bit of vintage/modern contrast, but on both of the side tables it wasn't really working, a bit too big, so I put it on the old sewing table in the sitting room and moved stuff round a bit, it's the place me and Mr BC tend to sit in the evening anyway so maybe it's better placed in here with us.  It casts a wonderful old vintage glow in the evening, I'm not sure how a glow can be vintage but it feels like it is…

just trucking along

IMG_4885

I've not been well over the last few weeks since the conjunctivitis, it seems to have gone in floods so some days I've been buzzing around ok but the last few I've pretty much been wiped out, a little better today.  Mr Beach Cottage informed me that I would not get better if I did not sit down, in fact yesterday he instructed me to lay down on the sofa from when the kiddos went to school until it was time to pick em up.  Well of course, I was worse than useless at this, but at 1pm I decided I would lie on the sofa and watch some good old Oprah.  I wriggled and squirmed but I was there for the whole show, phew, that was one huge eye-opener for sure.  It was all about transvestites who had transitioned, happily married men with kids who turned into happily married women with kids.  When Mr Beach Cottage came home I kept looking at him for signs of anything, I mean how would you know?  And you see that is why I don't lie down on the sofa from 9-3 watching tv.

I thought you might like to see this little vintage chair, transformed by a huge clean-up today and lots of elbow grease…won't be staying in the cottage, I'll need to find a new home…

And tomorrow I'm going on a new thrifting adventure…to an auction, at an auction house, on my own (but with my camera of course) how utterly exciting, can you imagine what I'll be like if there is something there I want and I have to bid against someone and stick up one of those little paddle signs?  Too funny.
