Take One Table

IMG_6382

G'day all, hope you all had a good weekend and thanks for letting me know what you all get up to on those days that are not meant to be about skivvying.

Well I did get a few of the things done that I wanted to do just for me and hooray I did get started on the shed/summer house makeover and boy it is coming on so well.  Of course I've painted it white but it's gonna take me a few more afternoons to get it finished…

So I decided some of the me-time would be a little Beach Cottage vignette-ing (and I love that not-a-word word).  I waited til there was no-one here and had a little play.  After having been inspired in blogland last week by numerous sources but mostly Cindy's I wanted to use what I had to create a new look for a table that sits in the corner of the breakfast room, I challenged myself to see how I could make this area feel different by just jigging stuff around.

It's a funny little corner that you walk past, you know those right?  It had lately become a dumping ground for the laptop & its charger, the hot glue gun and two lamps without bulbs.  I cleared that off, shopped the Beach Cottage for a few bits and bobs and fiddled…

I came up with a few different looks, let me know what you think and which one you like best…and take yourself over to Susan's for more gals who like to makeover…

Meet the Beach Cottage New Family Member

IMG_6282

G'day lovelies, hope you are all well.  I thought I'd introduce you to the newest member of the Beach Cottage clan.  Isn't she wonderful?

I've had one of these on the Beach Cottage Most Wanted List for what seems like ever and never come across anything even remotely similar.

So I was quite excited about her, I woulda preferred a much older more vintagey one but those really do rocket in price…So I was pleased, even though she was covered in a skin-like tan cover and possibly a bit younger than I wanted, I would be able to make her over somehow.  Sadly as I pulled off the covering today I'm going to have to re-think what I do with her as her original covering is holey, sigh (I've seen them covered in Cath Kidston fabric, to die for, but not sure if I could do it with my limited sewing skills – if you've any ideas could you please leave me a comment?)

Now, that particular day I'd also purchased a cupboard that was a little bulky meaning that this old gal had to sort of stick her head & top half out of the window.  And as I drove across, not the smaller bridge to where I live, but the beautiful, beautiful, big, old and famous one, I sighed to myself, looked up at the bridge, the blue sky, the Aussie flag, hmmm life is good.  When some idiot in a white turbo van with go faster stripes cut me up within an inch of my life.  I braked as he went across me and errrrm, did quite a rude sign and said quite a rude word.  He wound down his window, to, I'm assuming, replicate my sign.  However he took one look at my new family member whose headless torso and breasts were hanging out of the window, pulled a strange expression and swiftly kicked in his turbo and moved on.

Ha!  Don't mess with a Beach Cottage owner on a mission and a new member of the family in tow.

Edited:  Oh my goodness I just got chance to sit down and look at Heather Bullard's mannequin, boy oh boy not only does what she did look fantabulous, I also have found blog love…thanks for those who gave me the link, especially to Kathy (you didn't leave an email) who took the time to come back and tell me what month to look for…thank you!

A Chair + A Blanket = Makeover Magic

IMG_6273

G'day ladies

You know when you have something that kinda, in the back of your mind, you know isn't right, you know you don't really like?  Well I had that with this old chair that I made a slipcover for in Amy Butler fabric.  I went through an Amy Butler phase and not that I don't like her stuff now or that it did not tie in quite nicely with all the white or add a welcome a pop of colour, but more really that I think bright colours and furniture and me, don't quite go together.  Ya probably not surprised to hear that.

Anyway I have had a few extremely successful thrifting trips lately, I lurve it when that happens and I am gathering vintage china like crazy for my little business plan hatching.  On one of these trips I came across a vintage white Bates bedspread.  I love these old beauties, and I have quite a collection of old white bedspreads now, but not a Bates.  It was definitely on the Beach Cottage Most Wanted List and I definitely snatched it to myself when I found it and did that oh-so-wonderful thrifters dance.

It was a bit grubby but I was fairly sure a good soak, a coupla washes and a long dry in the sun would get anything out and I was right.  I soaked it twice in one of those scary chemical-laden laundry brightener-uppers and hey presto it was Persil-bright.

Today as I scooted past that chair and the grim little corner it was in, I suddenly wondered why don't I just throw something over it to cover the Amy Butler orangeness?  The Bates!  Yes of course!  So I spent a couple of minutes, no more, tucking and folding…

I'd seen in a magazine the layering of old mirrors up against a wall, but always thought that the mirrors I had weren't really large enough to do that but I had these two lying around from another move around in the breakfast room and so I just propped them up beside the chair.

What do you think of my magic metamorphosis moment (find more amazing makeovers over at Susan's).  I sat with my afternoon tea and a new magazine and felt quite chuffed with myself.  Small things, small minds and and all that…
