More of a change around than a makeover but even so just a little bit of fiddling and it's amazing the difference it makes to a room, don't you think?
I'd been wanting to re-arrange the sitting room for a while and perhaps pull in a new sofa and have two sofas face to face…however there was a problem with there being two doors to this room so I couldn't have what I wanted in the end… So anyway on Saturday morning I decided I would pull the sofa away from the wall and lose some of the clutter in there, there were too many bits around, and it was beginning to drive me around the bend. I wanted the lamps and a couple of old mirrors to be the main focus and I wanted the curtains puddling on the floor…
I got to thinking about the sofa and just how well it has done for us and how much I still love it. We bought two of them about 10 years ago, when really there weren't many white sofas around and I was wondering whether white, a baby and a toddler would truly be such a good idea. I remember we looked around a lot for just the right one. I wanted slouchy cushions but a square-ish frame, removeable, machine washable slipcovers preferably linen or denim. Oh how I searched and in the end found one in the back of one of those magazines in the Sunday newspapers. I phoned the shop and the nearest showroom was in West London and a bit of a hike with a baby and a toddler in tow. But off we went and I loved them. Since then they've been part of 4 houses before the Beach Cottage and in fact became one when we moved to Australia and left one behind. That was a mistake, but I guess it makes me love the one I have now even more. The two white leather ones in the family room just don't seem to do it for me as much. Maybe that was another mistake.
Anyway I'm pleased with it & how the sitting room turned out, I wanna go sit in there and just ponder…

Love, love, love the crispness of it all!!! KUDOS! Warmly, Linda
I love it, really calm but plenty to look at. Your sofa is great, I love its rumpled covers and stripey cushions.

It’s amazing what a little bit of changing feels so new again.Just wonderful. I could sit on your slouchy couch and read a magazine and sip tea… complete comfort!

Beautiful! I wish I could be disciplined enough to do an all white room.
Your sofa looks just perfect for a beach house. Love it…and the crisp clean look of the whole room. Very nice!

Gorgeous, as always! I love the perfect touches you use to pull it all together.
I’m curious; while I love your decorating taste, how do you keep so much white, clean?
Hi Sarah,
Your photos are beautiful!
Sarah,
This is my first visit to your site! Such an interesting space, looks like a place I would like to spend time in. Thanks for sharing…Cathy
Your rooms always give me this sedate feeling. As if I could just lie down on that lovely sofa and drowse off…
Brenda
There’s a beautiful serenity to your living room–I love it!
Beautiful room and photos – I love the little worn cupboard with the mirror on it. I live on the opposite side of the country and I envy your treasure hunting finds – its slim pickings over here
.
Like everything else you post, these pictures are sooo pretty. I always feel so inspired by your blog. laurie
Well, ANYTHING to keep you from going around the bend, Sarah! I had to smile as that brought to mind times gone by when we kids would ask mom where she was going and she’d sometimes reply — ‘Crazy! Wanna come?’ If she had said ‘around the bend’ we probably would have asked to go along! Oh, and…sheer lovliness in the sitting room once again!
Your room looks so inviting and so relaxed! It looks like a place I would just love to hang out in!
I just bought a white slip-covered sofa yesterday and I love it! I’ve wanted one for such a long time!
Nice, soft and soothing.
Linda

Sarah,
Thank you so much for leaving a comment on my blog. Now I have found you and your *divine* beach cottage. I LOVE it! What an inspiring blog you have~
Best,

Sarah, I love the whole look of this room! I wish I had 4 or 5 houses just so I could have one decorated just this way…with all the white and lovely neutrals! But I don’t want to have to clean and keep up 4-5 houses! LOL Just want to decorate them!
I love the puddley drapes and love your rug! I love how you get an idea of what you are looking for and search it out…not settling. I do the same thing. Sometimes I wish I didn’t…think my life would be a bit simplier…but can’t help it!
Thanks for a great MM!
love how you hung two different sets of drapes on one window. very beachy indeed!
