On my treasure hunting adventures, scouring the land for this tatty old cottage, I came across this sea chest. Oh so gorgeous. Do you like it? It was red before and covered with that old black writing, you know, and old labels from far gone days and far off lands. I wished that I had the sort of house where red would have worked, obviously it never would have.
So I gave it the treatment, lashings of my tried and tested shade of beachy white, that is not quite stark white and neither antique cream, but somewhere in between. I get it hand mixed at the paint store. I think the little man in there, who is very nice, sometimes raises his eyes to heaven as I come in with my numbers for the mixture.
In the end, this beauty found a new home, in a cottage by the sea down the coast…how nice..

I am very enjoy your blog, your blog is very true of the bar, hoping to see you more exciting content! I wish you have a happy day! http://www.star-trek-dvd.com
For a brief moment your photo takes me to the beach. While we didn’t see the red before, the tranquil beach white finish is beautiful.
hi sarah… i went to whiteport. you can’t imagine my surprise when i saw that almost *all* of the accessories were named for places where i live! LOL it was very comical to say the least! teaticket… that’s the village i used to *live* in! naushon… that’s the island right off the coast where i live! it just went on and on… thanks for the smiles and chuckles this sunny morning on cape cod!
Don’t you wish that chest could talk? you have made it fit in beautifully!
I love boxes/chests like that…. so very useful but pretty at the same time. You are so brave using so much white. It is beautiful!
HI! Great transformation! I paint everything too ~ my husband just rolls his eyes and says he doesn’t understand.
I found a large wicker trunk at the goodwill last week – someone “tried” to paint it black but when it came into my house it became cream and is now one of my most favorite things in my bedroom. I just LOVE when I find good treasures for just a few dollars. I know I’ve said this before but I love to look over your pictures of your cozy comfy home and get so much inspiration!
Sarah
My Daddy’s old trunk looks like this, but missing its leather handles. It’s still black, but this gives me inspiration.

well done!
how divine! it looks right at home in your abode.
I love it….looks very similar to the creamy yellow trunk in my living room.
hmmm I’ll take TWO of those chests if I could!!! I’d like a white one just like yours for myself, and perhaps a tatty old black one for hubby’s office! =) You do wonders with your treasures!
I just love that trunk.
I went to Whiteport.. OMG… how gorgeous is that. Thanks for sharing. Marilyn
WOW !!! I have a chest just like the one in the picture. I have thought often of painting it but just never really made it a priority. Now that I have seen yours I am definitely going to make that happen. Did you use an eggshell finish and how do you stop the paint from scratching or chipping off? LOVE IT !!!
Oh the history it must have. Trunks are very great treasures…. you can use them for storage and coffee tables.. loving the transformation…. I must be off the Whiteport and see the goodies… I’ll know who to blame when I want to buy everything!

Just fabulous, as always! Were you able to rescue any of the old labels?
Oh, Sarah…this is just beautiful. I can’t believe how stunning in looks in it’s white dress…I have a trunk almost like this in my attic..metal…dark blue..never one time thought about painting it white. Oh, my…I just don’t know where I would put it…
Do you ever run out of room to put these lovely pieces in?? You may have a lot larger home than I….
xo bj
I have a chest EXACTLY like that only it is “Army green” – it was my grandmother’s so I’m hesitant to paint it, but several times have thought really hard about doing so. I love yours in white! The one redeeming factor about mine is the lovely “wallpaper” interior in a tiny rose floral pattern – probably close to 100 years old now – but of course that part is never seen! You’ve inspired me to try to be brave and paint mine a lighter, more refreshing color. Thanks! Hugs, Sharon
Sarah the chest looks fabulous
