A Beach Cottage Burlap Lantern & Giveaway!

IMG_7718

It's been a tough week for me at the Beach Cottage, not that I want any sympathy, we all have those weeks don't we?  I guess that's part of being a grown up.  Trips to the ER, long late phone calls to England, leaks to the summer house…blah blah blah

So today, at lunch,  I decided it was time to take a bit of time for me, appreciate, sit down, take stock and force myself to just zone out and I love to do this by sitting in my new little area that I showed you last week and flick through a few books and magazines.  Oh and you must take a visit to Beach Cottage Inspiration, the portal for all things white, vintagey and beachy, where today you'll find some beachy house pics that'll knock your socks off!!

As I prepared the lunch and pulled out a few cookery books to leaf through for tomorrow (and thanks to all of you who left me your ideas, I'm emailing you)  I remembered the tea light holders I had made when I was in turbo-burlap mode (and see a burlap table dressing which proved very popular, here)

While I was busily running around all crafty, I had rescued these old glass jam jars (not sure what you ladies stateside call them, jelly jars?) and a few old wire coathangers and made a Beach Cottage lantern, for free…

I promptly left them sitting outside on the table on the deck and completely forgot about them.

They were so very easy to make and a great low-cost and easy way to add to your outdoor area and I would have sat out there this lunchtime if it wasn't blowing a gale…

Hope you all have a great weekend especially if you have the good fortune of having a public holiday on Monday and I hope that you take a bit of time to sit still and appreciate and do a simple little thing to make life beautiful…

…and if you'd like to enter the Beach Cottage Giveaway for a bit of coffee table candy for your little nook, just

Hi Sarah! I have seen vases wrapped with burlap, but not with the cool black lettering showing! It looks so neat wrapped around the jar candle holder too. You are so creative! I get so much inspiration from your blog. Thank you.

Every women needs a little spot of her own. It’s vital. And we call them jelly jars, by the way. I’m sure someone has already said that, seeing as there’s 55 comments when I arrived! Those weeks like you’ve just had, kids at home, are tough. But then you’ll be like me and the kids will be out of the nest. You’ll be fanning the menopausal heat wave. And drinking iced tea from jelly/jam jars! Love your burlap!
    xoxo, Brenda

what a wonderful idea.Do you know the only thing my dad will drink out of is jars like that, like Mason jars.Growing up in the sticks they canned alot and they drunk out of the jars.To this day my dad will only drink out of those jars.Alot of restaraunts here in TN serve drinks out of them thank goodness.I always pick them up with handles on them at garage sales to have at my house for my dad when he comes.I may have to start making lanterns out of the ones without handles now.
