How you cookin' girls? I should be cleaning up this old cottage and doing some chores but instead I find myself ridiculously avoiding any such thing. I came back from coffee with lg all raring to go and then came in and it all sort of quickly fizzled…
Anyway, I thought I'd give you a quick sneak peek at the WC makeover (you can see the in-progress post with the white painted cupboard on the wall here). Yes this is the longet makeover in history, mainly because I was waiting for a shop to get in stock a special little something to finish it all off and because the skirt I made for the sink not only was I unsure if I liked it (Miss Beach Cottage gave it the big old thumbs down) after I had hot-glued it up it promptly fell down in a puddle on the floor.
But what I do like is the window dressing, if you can actually call it that, one of my complete DIY affairs, which some, who come from where I come from, may refer to as a bodge. Though it works for me…
Here's a shot of what I was working with, just to recap (and go here for the whole thing and a video tour!)- those lovely aluminium windows you know I lurve so much in this extended back bit of the cottage…
When I first revealed what to me had become an awful room, lots of wonderful commenters got me thinking and totally changing my mind in everything I had decided on, I was thinking burlap and touches of black and suchlike. I talked about doing a pelmet affair to the window but actually the light in here deciphers so nicely and the window is almost always open so I thought nothing could possibly look better than a simple piece of linen blowing in the breeze…
Make sure you stop by the Beach Cottage tomorrow, I've got a very special giveaway…from here.
I'm off to tidy-up…

Ohhhh… Love that candlestick! I’m very into the chunky ones lately, and your shiny one is gorgeous. Linen curtains were a very good choice — casual and oh so pretty, just your style.
Have a wonderful day!
love it. love the wafting. love the shell on the rocks. love the rocks. love it love it love it. jkj
The simple breezy curtain just blowing with the breeze is just perfect…
Have you thought about hot gluing a velcro strip to the sink and then attaching the skirt that way? That way you could easily launder any skirt you like.
Or, if you could find 3 or 4 of the right size of shutters you could hinge them together to make sort of a firescreen to put around the sink pipes. Just more ideas for the hopper…
so beautiful. i keep meaning to come tell you that when we were remodeling our bathroom this month, i was inspired by your light airy touches.
it was fun to see you featured at kimba’s today!
Lookin good so far Sarah! Glad you’re up and about, hope that means you’re feeling 100% better now.
Well, I can’t wait to see the entire things!!! The curtain and candle holder are gorgeous!!!! Love it! You can use use velcro with sticky on the back on the sink then sew the other velcro onto a skirt, and now that you’ve used linen on your windows it would look wonderful on your sink. It’s so airy and nice!!! Be sure to look for me on Susans Tablescape Thursday, I made some of the cute votive holders you made and they are part of the centerpeice!
All righty, I start pre-drooling already!
Firstly I shall tell you I couldn’t get your link in the last sentence to go through. A technicality? Secondly, I shall say that you’ve done wonders with that little beach cottage. If I’d seen what you first saw (after having showed us, of course) I might have tucked tail and run. But you didn’t. You saw her through. And you’d best be mighty darned proud of it!

The linen is perfect and such a beautiful contrast to the shiny candleholder. I just love curtains blowing in the breeze. I have always made sure that I put those in my bedroom since it evokes such a wonderful feeling of cool summer breezes. Can’t wait to see the room when you are done. You have wonderful design instincts.
I can’t get the link to work either! But I love the candlestick and the roks with seashell ~ perfect!
Mmmmm….LOVE the candle holder…so pretty!
Also…to solve your sink skirt dilemma, you can get velcro that has an adhesive on the back…that should work.
Smiles,
Rachel
