Deck Sofa Before / After at the Beach Cottage

IMG_1022

Hello!  How the devil are you?

Well it has been unusually hot here and we have had a fabulous weekend including a couple of successful garage sales yesterday where I found two naturally weathered deck chairs (that need some love) and today we spent the morning at the beach and I came home with that tinge of warmth to the skin that just makes you relax enough to turn the rest of Sunday into one where you end up heading off to bed for a nice long nap…

OK so on now to sofas re-invented for a new life…this is the deck sofa, now swaddled in a fabulous coat of white.  This is the sofa I have blathered on about on this blog, the one that is a 90's throwback, was picked up from a thrift shop but has become one of those things that kinda just fits in with us here at the Beach Cottage…you know?

Here's how it looked before – am I embarrassed, no (and go find more transformations at Susan's)

But to be honest, I suppose it's not really the actual sofa that I've come to love, it's more that here in our new life in Australia, I love to be able to sit outdoors for most of the year, to revel in the climate, the fresh air, to gulp in the heady smell of Spring as we did last night with lovely friends and a gin and tonic or lay there at night gazing at the stars.  Call these romantic notions if you will…but I need those in my life.

For me, it's like nothing else to have a deck, outside, to fester about on and I don't claim that it looks perfect or more that it is gonna score big with an interior designer.  For me this sofa represents life, what's going on now, what I can afford and how I can make the best of it – I hope that's happening for you too…:-)

the Deck Sofa Transformation Video, is here

So, it's goodnight from the Beach Cottage, it's Sunday, 8.30 and I'm off to linger in my homeland with Deterctive Chief Inspector Barnaby and the goings on of a village much like my own was, without the murders of Midsomer….

I like it. And I like that it went from a frog to a prince. You have the ability to see deeper than the surface. Are you that way with people? To see what the prize is despite the outer layer, that is exceptional. Thank you for sharing with us that a little cleaning up makes things a lot better and that there really is nothing on the planet that doesn’t thrive with a bit of attention.

  3. WOW!! Just wow!! That is gorgeous!! *drooooool*

By the way, I will send you some pictures of the before-after of my living room soom. Some first pictures can be found on my brand-new blog (in Dutch, at least for the moment).

    Hi Sarah another great transformation.

    Looks wonderful

  34. Floss says:

Wonderful – and what a transformation! Our roofed terrace has only just become free of moving-in-junk, and it now has builders crawling all over it replacing rotten roof beams. But when it’s finished, I dream of having something as special as you have achieved…

  35. Sarah Ryan says:

    What a transformation!
Your outside sofa is perfect. What a way to spend the arvo just lazing about on it with an iced tea & a good book or magazine.

  36. I loved it before and now…. ahhhh! How gorgeous!

  37. Morning T says:

Perfectly done and perfectly you (and me)! Love it Sarah, bravo. How I would love to sit out there with you and sip on gin and tonics.
    Happy Monday to you. :-)

  38. prettythings says:

Love it! I stumbled upon your blog about a month ago and have become completely entranced by what you’ve been able to accomplish… we are looking for a new home nearer to the beach, and I reassure myself almost daily that it’s WORTH the reno’s and smaller space to be so close to the ocean… reading your blog helps reassure me we’re on the right path… thanks!

  39. Looks comfy and peaceful…that would make it just perfect in my book!

  40. Suzy says:

That is GORGEOUS! The new white paint looks perfect!

  41. Heidi @: heidi-heartandhome.blogspot.com says:

    Hi Sarah,
Well, that before was really something wasn’t it?
But that’s what makes the “after” even better, plus the fact that you use the sofa, it fits in with your life and you didn’t spend a fortune just for a piece of furniture to lay on with you feet up – very clever if you ask me! The perfect sofa for your beach cottage.
Have a great week. Fall is starting here – we had our first RAIN last night- it smells so good outside!

  42. Pomona says:

I really enjoyed my outdoor sofa this summer – but I think my outdoor season is probably rather shorter than yours! And now it is back in the kitchen by the Aga!

  43. susan says:

It doesn’t look like the same piece of furniture! We all need “romantic notions” in our life…whether we know it or not :) Hope you have lots of happy times with it!

  44. Vicki says:

I always love how you redo the old and give it new life but what a love most about your blog is your fresh, positive attitude about life. Live in the now and enjoy every moment you can. You are wealthy beyond belief in all the things that count in life.
Keep on having those happy days.
    Vicki

  45. Love it.

I hope you will come by for a visit as well. I have some cool pumpkin transformations at my fun party that I posted today (and I have another on Wed that just started up).

  48. bj says:

It looks just fabulous and now I am wanting one for my patio!! I don’t know where the heck you find all these goodies…I never…NEVER find things like this. I think your country just has prettier things than mine! :O)
I was interested to see that you painted on the white instead of spraying it on….It really turned out pretty!

  49. Amanda says:

I always love something in its natural colour and then you paint it white and I love it 10 times more!! There is something about white that makes things look so new and fresh…..good decision!!

  50. Hi Sarah, fabulous make-over. I too am a ‘paint-a-holic’ and have tins and tins of white paint! What a huge difference a lick of paint can do. Well done.

  51. Irene says:

Amazing transformation! Could you elaborate a little bit more on the actual painting? Thank you.

  52. It’s so amazing what a little white paint can do, isn’t it?!!? I just purchased some white paint and plan on using it on my very shabby looking tables in the living room. My husband thought I was crazy but I want to have a go at something white. I’m not sure if the two dogs are going to cooperate but we’ll see. : ) Thanks for the wonderful pictures!!
