Being Thankful at the Beach Cottage & a Few Festive Decs

IMG_3727

G'day, I know a whole lot of you are celebrating Thanksgiving, so best wishes for a lovely day.

I am thankful for many things this year, mostly that we survived getting re-trenched and in fact I'm in a very strange back-of-the-mind-way thankful for this – oddly been a blessing in disguise…we are far from out of the rough waters yet, but we're getting there.

It certainly has not been easy, and some nights we've been to bed wondering whether we might in fact lose our cottage.

It's a funny old thing life, isn't it, you certainly never know what it'll bring, what's round the corner and where it'll take you?

One thing for sure, as when I started this blog, it's helped to come here at the end of the day and ramble on about cutting corners and making things better for nothing and I'm thankful that I've discovered that taking pictures, vignetting and writing has proved to be very much part of me.

And on that note, of making this nice with not much, I'm beginning to think about decorations for Christmas with November just about over.  I've bought my usual Christmas magazines this year and have to say I've not really been inspired.  The shops, too, seem to be a strange mix of black and brights – I don't think I'll ever buy black for Christmas and well bright pink and yellow seem so far away from festive as can be, to me.

But I have seen beachy done quite nicely and so I've spent my meagre Decs Budget on just a few bits in the ravishingly-expensive beachy shop and spent hours beachcombing with little Mr BC and collected lots of stuff for Noel-au-Natrel.

My other splurge'll be spending on white flowers and hydrangeas to stick with silver and white and shells, oh and my annual Christmas expedition to IKEA for Nordic treats and Yuletide specials.

Yep I think that's the way it's gonna be round here.

Kinda suits the year really – simple, white, classic, plus stuff from the beach…I pulled a few things from the Christmas box, some flowers and candles, and Dollar Store stars…too easy…

Sarah, first let me say that whatever you do, you know I love. You are very talented. I think the white flowers are very elegant, and I like them mixed with things from the sea as well as stars. And secondly, I’m not sure what’s been going on with you, but it is my prayer that all of life’s blessings be yours in abundance. Thinking of you and wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving. I’m thankful that you have taken the time to blog all about your finds and your life. I’ve enjoyed it every time I’ve visited.

    Happy Tablescape Thursday…

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

You could find a dirty old shoe and a bent fork in a dumpster…and for $1, make them into something fabulously beachy and elegant! It appears that in losing some of life’s trappings, you discovered a very multi talented “you”!! And I, for one, am very thankful to be on the receiving end of your creativity!

Even without pilgrims & turkey…HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Sarah, those who are richest are not those who have the most, but those who need the least. Western culture is obsessed with celebrating certain holidays, but you know more – you celebrate everyday with what is at hand. Don’t worry about what the dominant culture is doing. Explore your own life. In creating a life of meaning, that is the deeper dive . . .

  4. I don’t think you have it in your genetic makeup to do anything less than perfect!

    Happy (American) Thanksgiving!

  5. Happy Thanksgiving from America!!

Sarah, I’m with you on the black decorations – who thinks of these things? I think in our hot climate, when it comes to Christmas decorating, less is definitely more. I’ve had fun decorating with gum branches in a tall vase with a few baubles scattered amongst them, paper bunting I’ve made, a pile of shells with a few Christmas baubles. You have done so well in tough times so pat yourself on the back on finding the beautiful with less.

  7. Happy Thanksgiving (although I know it’s an American thing). I am grateful for your bloggy friendship and always abounding inspiration!

Yeah… I’m not big on bright, bright colors — or horror of horrors, black. So not me.

We’re actually doing a bunch of plaster casts of skinny starfish to tie to our tree this year, once finished they look like the real deal, so watch out for that one to come down the pipeline soon.

    Happiest of holidays, my friend!

    Thanks for joining Transformation Thursday!

  8. You can get silver candle stick holders at IKEA for $7.95. Skinner I think is their name.

  9. I’m with you Sarah – black and brights don’t make my heart sing about Christmas either. I’m a traditional kind of gal when it comes to Christmas but now that I am in the beach house, I had to do one room with a beachy Christmas theme.
I look forward to seeing more of your Christmas decorating.
    Hugs ~ Kerryanne
