I've always loved going to the city, London as it was in the Old Country and Sydney here now. When we were thinking about our SeaChange, considering all manner of locations, we couldn't quite believe while on our Reccie to Australia, that we could live in a busy little town by the sea and have access to all that is offered by a city. And get there via the ocean.
The city seems full of possibilities, doesn't it? When I was a child, before the motorways were built around London we would often travel right through the centre on weekends. I can vividly remember nose pressed up against the window, drinking in the scenery, first through the East End and all that had to offer – huge long rows of working class housing covered in the grimy layers of city life and not much greenery, through the middle, all the famous breathtaking sites to wonder at and then on to the West and the big old grand houses with parks in the middle and iron fences a la Notting Hill.
We don't go to the City here anywhere near as much as I would like or as much as we thought we would. Somehow living over here on the beaches has become enough. And then I suppose at the moment our lives are busy and hectic and trips to the city are almost a luxury at the weekend.
When I worked in London I would get off the train and enjoy the vibe, the tourists, the architecture, the pubs and love the diversity of the different areas……it seems the same here only everything is on a much smaller scale and we step into city life after a very picturesque ride on the ferry…and here everything is bathed in the wonderful light and colour that is Australia.
I'll leave you just with that today, hope you enjoy – I've been playing with the camera and photography (& yup I'm working on those notecards)

Hi Sarah! Oh, have a wonderful trip. We’ve been to Sydney and just loved it, but that was long long ago!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia
It’s gorgeous, what breathtaking views.
Really enjoyed the photos! Thanks you made my day!
I love Sydney, but I too rarely visit anymore…My last visit was walking across the harbour bridge, it was wonderful! I made the most of that day, and the memories are still fresh! Mind you, it only takes an hour to drive in, but our busy lives get the better of us sometimes!
Thankyou for reminding me of our gorgeous harbour. It is such a contrast to London isnt it, but it is nice to here you speak of Sydney so proudly, and truly call it home. Thanks for sharing,
Sue
So beautiful! We have nothing like that here in Texas.
What a great way to arrive in a great city!
We are reading Swallowdale (sequel to Swallows and Amazons) and are always imressed to note that the Swallows’ mum leant to sail in Syndey harbour. I suppose that was way before the Opera House.
I just love Sydney! Lovely photos.
Hi Sarah,
On my (Dutch) blog, I just gave you a Kreativ Blogger award! I love and admire your beautiful (mostly low budget) metamorphoses in that gorgeous beachy style.
Love,
Anita
Love the photos – how do you get the black boarder around the photo?
What AMAZING photos of your trip to Sydney … simply BEAUTIFUL outdoor views! I’m celebrating my 1st Blogoversary at Happily Retired Gal and sharing photos of Molly at Dog Beach at Small Reflections. Happy Thanksgiving
Hugs and blessings,
Beautiful photos! I especially love the shot of the Opera House. While trips into the city are exciting, there is nothing more lovely than a slow, lazy, tranquil day on the water. Happy Outdoor Wednesday.
Beautiful! We would love to some day see Sydney.
Have a wonderful day! Denise
Wow, that is some trip and a way to get into the city. Beautiful photo’s. The opera house looks fabulous.
My how I love your post today. I was blessed once to see this lovely place. Thank you so much for taking me along on another great tour.
Those are stunning! I am hoping to visit Sydney this spring (or their fall)! Now I really am hoping our plans work out!
Hi Sarah,
I think taking the ferry is one of the best ways to transport from here to there, don’t do it often but love to hitch a ride on one when we’re in San Francisco. It’s always on the to-do list, even though we just ride it over and back. I love being out on the water like that, and for some reason, no Seasickness on that short of a ride, thank goodness!
Sydney has been on my travel list for such a long time, don’t know when but someday…..so beautiful.
Have a great weekend
