I like this wreath.
I like the silveriness and the whiteness.
I like the fluffiness and sphereness.
I like the hint of tinseliness.
You know what I like the most?
The priceiness.
Very modern I know but a bit of juxtaposition works and is needed sometimes in tatty old beach cottages on the wrong side of town
(you can click on the pictures to see them enlarged)
When I was here dangling in the delight of Christmas Budget Nordic style I didn't really know what to choose first. With bored males around too, it was a task not for the faint of heart.
There was (and probably still is if you are quick) a whole range of this white and silvery stuff, right up my alley and ready to come home with me straight away.
And right in the middle of this whole glittery Christmas department was a huge pile of the loveliest largest baubles, silver with white polka dots. Lovely, just lovely and I thought I'd buy a few and hang them outside…the deck or the porch or perhaps even from a tree.
Something else then caught my eye and I turned my back. Five minutes or so later I got back to the baubles and to my utter horror saw two young girls piling the last one into their full-up-with-the-silver-baubles trolleys.
I stood there with my jaw dropped, these two girls had just scooped up the whole inventory.
Every single one was gone.
Next to me was another gobstruck bauble-needing gal, looking, like me, with daggers at these two…I turned to her and said that perhaps if one of us made a commotion the other one could swiftly delve into one of their trolleys and steal a few away.
She laughed, but it was a kinda grim laugh and told me of her plans to hang them in differing lengths from her verandah.
We stood there deliberating but truly there was nothing we could do.
Moral of the story: Apply snatch and grab vintage treasure hunting skills to all areas of life.
So, should you be on your pilgrimage to IKEA and see those large balls
, firstly get them in your trolley posthaste and secondly throw in a few more for me.
I'd love to get my hands on some
to hang around and about outside…
See you all soon, I hope you enjoy the weekend's festivities, I hear Santa's coming down the beach on Sunday…

( bauble in question: Kotte IKEA $7.99 )
(the story of us finding the old vintage door – that everyone seems to comment on – from the side of the road and turning it into a chalkboard is here)
blogged for The Inspired Room's Event
oh and go and see a sparkly cottagey starfish here…

You have got to wonder about the size of their tree if they need that many decorations.
Thanks for the tip on snatch and grab!
Love your tinsely wreath and the contrast with your old door….went over and read that post also about the chalk board door and enjoyed it very much.
Sorry about losing out on those wonderful decorations.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Love the wreath! It looks perfect there!!! Your posts always make me laugh out loud!!!
There are still baubles left at my local IKEA-store, but unfortunately I live in Sweden and I guess the shipping would take away the bargain part.
Fabulous wreath, don’t know why you didn’t just throw those girls onto the floor out of your way and run, run, run to the checkout- with their trolley of course!!!
Alison

Happy holidays to you,

Love the wreath, it’s very pretty and unique.
Hope karma kicked in and the girls dropped all the baubles on concrete and ended up with silver bauble dust!! They were just plain greedy!!
Yes, I’ve learned from experience that if you see something you like, grab it while you can!!
Kelly
Love the wreath, Sarah.
Sorry about the baubles…not fair! Happy weekend!
Smiles,
Rachel
I am sure the baubles are so unhappy in their new home and will be sold in a boot sale where you will get the whole batch for very little.
That is a sad story! But one we can all relate to, this time of year ;P . I also love the juxtaposition and whimsy that your modern wreath has. Too cute!

I do so love your decorating. Loved looking at pictures of your pretty cottage. Fixer uppers are a lot of hard work, but so wonderful in the long run.
Cheers!
oh my goodness I LOVE reading your blog. YOu make me smile every time! and what a beautiful door and wreath. So sorry to hear about your bauble debacle! I LOVE Ikea-my husband just came home the other day with a box of silver ornaments and 2 HUGE red hearts-which I will use for Valentines Day. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas
I love old doors and this one was a great find. The tinsel wreath is perfect for this door.
Merry Christmas~~~
Yes! I saw that wreath at Ikea in OC in Southern California~~
So pretty in your decor:)
Very nice to meet you!!!
Smiles,

What were you thinking girl? You must know by now that treasure hunting rules apply to IKEA too. Believe me Sarah, if I’d been there I would have employed the distract and snatch technique on your behalf for sure… [giggle]
Merry Christmas ~ Kerryanne
Those rotten girls! I hate when that happens and yes its happened many a time. Everything for Christmas looks beautiful at your place though despite those baubles being snatched up. Mel xxx
Your home certainly looks beautiful even without the extra baubles. That wreath looks like it belongs there. So pretty!

hello Sarah …
I am a first time reader – come via Julia @ Hooked on houses … a delight to find your blog … just a wonderful delight. I am currently living and working in far north west qld in the gulf of carpentaria in a house supplied by the employer .. we are having a whole of life adventure
but I so miss the notion of ‘my home’ and am doing the best with the temporary rental digs … so having your place to visit, and others like i, makes my lack of ambiance more bearable .. hope that makes some sense – and my best to you le
Wow nice design. Great work.
Une envie de faire coucou à toutes celles qui m’ont fait un comm un jour.Merveilleux noël kissous Isabelle
Love the wreath. Sorry about the baubles that got away…what nasty girls!
Darn it, sorry you lost out on those! I’ve had that happen at a yardsale. Yep, you gotta be fast. Hope you have a very Merry Chrismtas, dear Sarah! Love your wreath and all the festive whiteness in your cottage.
Your blog is so refreshing. I love to read it. It takes me away to somewhere I don’t think I’ll ever get to visit, only in your blog-envy!
I do love this story and the wonderful modern wreath that looks just perfect on your door! Just wanted to let you know that I gave you a Happy 101 award today over at trustyourstyle. Thanks so much Sarah for all your inspiration!

This TOTALLY happened to us. Mr. Shorehouse was hemming and hawing over how many boxes of lights he needed, and picked up only one while he thought about it. Wouldn’t you know, someone swooped in and grabbed EVERY SINGLE BOX was he was still “thinking.” I told him, “scoop now, think later!” His new mantra.
I love your wreath! And I think, “Gobstruck Bauble-Needing Gal” should be the title of your autobiography, lol!
