It's been a strangely good day. I wonder if you have those days too. You probably do. Days when you just seem to feel content and time just rolls along quite nicely…
I'm blogging from the Summer House, also known as Mr BC's office, also known as the Shoffice 'cos really it is a shed that we've semi-made over when we changed our life (again) back in March.
You know, I quite like it in there…we painted it white inside and out and Mr BC has stolen furniture from my 'to-do' and 'done' pile in the garage, including an old ladder I painted white which he is using as a sorta notice board and a few other old things…hmm, I've got my eye on that place…a bit of a spruce and some styling and that really could be a little Summer House Studio for me, I could lock myself in there when everyone annoys me (meaning I'd be in there often) and not come out for days…little set of tea making facilities and beer fridge…hmm
Anyway, so this morning, still on school hols, spent way too long in my pj's and finishing off the move around…we managed to get most of it done last night…just a pile of chairs and things that weren't in their new homes yet…
What I neglected to tell you, or anyone in this house for that matter, last night, is that I had a secret little reason for re-arranging the bedroom at this most in-opportune time.
You see, stashed in the depths of the garage was an old vintage door, recently found on a treasure hunting/junking trip and just waiting to come out to play. It's been at the forefront of my mind, since I felt a new look coming on. So a couple of days ago I went down there to have a look. Oooh yeah. Baby I wanted it up here, just the colour I'm snatching to myself while lurking around the paint chip section at Bunnings.
But not only was it the perfect colour, of course it was vintage, faded with a soft patina, lovely old fittings and I dunno just has an air of being…right for me now.
I knew I wanted it in my room, with me, because I thought it would work quite nicely with the white linen and the light…but I knew we'd have to move around for it to sit happily…and of course I wanted that coastal breeze around my head…
So this morning, we lugged that old thing up here and I spent some time bringing her right on back to life. I cleaned and listenend to BBC Radio 2, sigh I miss the BBC, Australia you know I love ya, but baby you really cannot beat the good old Beeb…
half way in and things were looking good!
perhaps it might have been a good idea not to throw this down the en-suite sink…
And now I'm blogging from the bedroom, staring right at her, leaning up against the wall, in faded vintage grey glory. Sigh, the fittings..
I'm just waiting for one little finishing touch to try before show you the finished product…so you'll have to wait, sorry, I was all pleased with this one …what I'm calling 'art' by my bed and was excited to show you my new acquaintance…but that'll have to wait
..and it will probably have to be until Monday, because tomorrow the Beach Cottage is on tour, we are going out for the day, haven't decided where yet but we are making the most of no schedules or sport..the Beach Cottage Kiddos are in charge of deciding where we go – I'm trying to keep my mouth shut and hoping that firstly we don't go anywhere that involves a skate park, mall or activity of any kind and secondly that wherever we do go it either involves a park or beach where I can spend the day pretending to be a good mum but really indulge in reading magazines and my new (to me) Ken Follett or sneaking off to find vintage things or look at old buildings. I'll report back…
and now to tonight, Friday night and I'm going out with the lovely Mr Beach Cottage (did you read that lg?)…I had a question from a friend, would we like to come over on Friday evening for a paella? Of course that is not an offer I can refuse…I will be right in the heart of Sydney's beaches, but I'll be reminiscing of many a holiday in Spain…and the best thing is the house we are going to is old and full of character, with a delightful little yard-cum-deck and vintage fittings and the like all around
oh and I'm wearing my oh-my-god-these-really-kill-me-but-I-really-love-'em t-bar shoes
(& if your in Australia you would laugh your *** off if you knew where I got them, lg you could guess)
and you see that is why it is a strangely good day…too many little good things added up to make me realise God my life is mostly very good
…so very much to be grateful for…what more can a gal ask for, and old door with a vintage grey patina, t-bar shoes and a whitewashed Summer Shed
See all you kiddos next week, go junkin' won't ya?
Think of me in these shoes, trying not to break my leg

The Dell Update
Day 6 with no computer, it doesn't even turn on
A call from the 'Logistics Team' to tell us they don't have the part and don't know when and can't help and a number to call Complaints dept
Complaints Dept took an age to get through, and promptly put us on hold for 13 mins and then cut us off
So we emailed and got and automated response saying they would review our request
and that was many hours ago
I'm not surprised…at least I've got T-Bar Shoes ;-)

Oh that door. I could stare at it for hours and wonder what it has seen, what it has heard, who has touched that handle…
Yes, I have a love affair with vintage. LOL Sometimes better than a novel.
Love the shoes and I’m so happy you have had a good day.
Enjoy!!
Glad you’re having a good day! Love the door, so pretty and perfect without all the years of grim on it! And of course THOSE shoes…clearly worth the pain!!!
Hope you got to go someplace fun and skate-free! Mr. Tide and I are off on an adventure together tomorrow…not sure where but it “will” involve shopping and hopefully a movie.
Shame on Dell, hope they fix your computer soon, but glad you have a laptop in the meantime, we need our daily dose of BC!
Kat
I adore those t-bar shoes!!! I told my hubby about your computer dilemna, he said that was interesting because they have built their reputation on customer service and availability. Have you tried to go higher up the chain to a manager somewhere. I guess you can’t do that if they just cut you off after you’ve waited for 13 minutes. I feel your pain and frustration. Here’s hoping it does get better and I am so glad to hear your joy today! God is good all of the time. Hugs, Cindy S
Love the shoes and the door! I have two old doors from an old house hubby and I renovated a few years back. We didn’t reuse the doors in the house and they were so lovely I didn’t want to just throw them away. They’re a set of very tall and narrow double doors. We have been using them as head boards, but in our new cottage that particular look just doesn’t seem to fit so I left one of them leaned up against the wall in the bedroom just until I could put it away. Well it turns out I love it the way it looks leaning against the wall. It reminded me of the other door of yours we occasionally see in your pictures (except mine’s all wood)and I thought “Hmmm…I think I’ll leave it there.”
Ooooh, you tease, making us wait until Monday! Love, love, love the door and the taps on your sink! Have a fab weekend x
You know, I’m really sorry to hear that update on your Dell. And on to those shoes…my feet hurt just looking at them.
Hopefully you won’t keep us waiting too long on the door re-do. She is a beauty!

You are so cute, making us wait like that and giving us a little peek. What a beautiful old door.I can’t wait to see what you’ve done. Love the shoes too!
Blessings,
Marcia
I so love your shoes….I think I can know where they are from (wink) anyhows you’re a hoot and I love the door!
Have a wonderful weekend!!!!
Hugs FROM USA
I have had Dell computers for some time. But, as with most of the computer companies, they are lousy at customer service. I usually end up chunking the thing and buying a new one rather than sit on the phone with some person from a different country trying to understand my predicament, and me trying to understand their words and accent.
Brenda
What an awesome door..my hubby rolls his eyes when he sees me eyeing something like this. Once it’s inside and lookin’ pretty, he likes it…*sign…if I only had some T-strap shoes!!!
Mmm…how I love that door…and your shoes are lovely! Happy weekend!
Smiles,
rachel
There was a door?? Once I see a fabulous pair of shoes I forget everything else.
love the shoes and the door! look forward to seeing the summer house.. don’t you like the ABC in australia??
I agree with you re Dell. I had a laptop on which the clock never kept time even after resetting. I didnt attach much importance to this as I have a watch and also clocks, I didnt buy the laptop as a timekeeping mechanism. HOWEVER one month after its guarantee ran out, it wouldnt boot up properly and after much research I found out that the BIOS battery needed changing. I had this done and it lasted a month. Having searched the web I found out that it was quite a problem with that series, and after several phonecalls Dell finally said that if I took out an “extended warranty” they would have it back for repair. They would let me have the warranty at the bargain price of £160.00. Nowhere in the handbook did it state the importance of the tiny battery that operates the clock and how it is linked to startup. As a company they disgust me. I wish you luck.
Having got that grump over and done with, and if you haven’t fallen asleep, that was the most exquisite post, love the door.
Same thing happened with my Dell after 6 months! I finally bought a new computer while I try to fix the dell, which I’ll sell once it’s fixed. I had to buy one because it was nearly impossible to get them to help me figure it out! I dread the time it will still take me to wait on the phone with them for ages…grr.
Oh wow what a great door – it cleaned up so well and such a great door handle ans backplate. Can’t wait to see what you do.
Hope you had fun in your T-Bars!! Mr BC would for sure have given you a foot massage if you needed that favours card out again.
Oh my what a nightmare with Dell. Hope it all works out – eventually
Alison
Hope your Dell problems get sorted very quickly! but you are right, at least you have your t-bars and the beautiful door. Can’t wait to see how it looks all finished.
Hope you are enjoying your weekend xx
Sorry about the computer. I love the door.
A little cottage summer house get a way sounds wonderful–I think I need one too.
Cheri
Beautiful cottage. I love the light tones and light brown accents, like the table runner.
I grabbed your button for our new blog if you don’t mind.
Cheers

well you do have those fab shoes and you could use them to productively stomp on your dell
best le
I am on the “high and low” search for an old door, preferabley the six panel kind to make into a kitchen table. Call me crazy, but a vintage door dinner table the color of a Tiffany’s box appeals to me right now.
Summer house – no way. What you have in the making my sweets is your very own studio space. If I can give you one piece of advice, put a lock on the door and pretend you are not there when the kiddos come screaming at the door.
Hhmmm… that always used to work for me but my new studio has a huge stinker of a window right where the kids can see me. I just have to pretend now that I can’t hear them and put my back to the window. Cruel I know but the only way to get work done and they do have another parent to complain to.
I imagine there will be all sorts of favours required to get hubs out of the summer house.
Hugs ~ Kerryanne
Oh I love old door knobs like these – remind me of being at Nanna’s house and being far too little to reach the saved rubber bands hanging from them.
The door cleaned up nicely…as for your sink? Ugg.
LOVE THOSE SHOES!!!!
Do Not Even get me started on DELL! The company we were bought-out by obviously has a deal with the Dell-vil and where we had previous used HP’s & Compaq’s that were refurbed over & over….now we have shiny new Dells…that are fine one day and the next just simply will not function…after about 10 times, we now know that this means your hard drive has fried.
LOVELY! I ain’t too thrilled with the multiple personalities that my MAC has had lately, but I never get a DELL! ARRRGGGHHHH!
GREAT SHOES!
