G’day Australia calling!
Thanks for the comments this week..I read them all and nodded and laughed…I will announce the winner next week…errm as there were quite a few of you I won’t be putting you in a beach bucket but rather I will get my kids to choose..
Anway,this is where you would have found me yesterday arvo….I dropped one of the balls I juggle as part of my day-to-day life and shortly after that they all came crashing down and simply I just gave in, grabbed a cold beer in the afternoon sun and retired up the end of the garden with this lovely string of shells beside me and the two Elizabeth’s in my life…Craig & David…
and we talked about fish pie…Russian fish pie…and the marvels of Dogger Bank Pie
…there is something mind-numbingly soothing when one drops their balls ;-) about afternoon sun, seashells, a whip of coastal breeze and reading vintage cooking books that hark back to a simpler time
later, I cheerily picked up my balls and threw them back up again
on the Beach Cottage Merry Go Round I call my life
See you cherry pies next week, that side of the road chair I blogged about the other day?….looks so good I am soooo pleased, it has letters on it and that’s all I’m-a-sayin’…

A while ago you mentioned you were doing something to your aluminium doors. I would love to see what you did with them. We have really similar doors that I dislike very much! They are hiding behind white curtains but we eventually would like to change them to french doors. Have a nice weekend!

Can’t wait to see the chair. Unfortunately when I drop the ball it rolls away never to be found again. Glad you were able to pick up yours!!! I have been wondering about the doors too. Love your string of shells. I have shells in every bowl box, basket, nook and cranny in my house. I do not live near the water so I experience the sea thru the shells and your camera lens. Thanks!!!

When things go awry here, ( as it did this morning) I too have to step back, regroup, and think about something calming. My thoughts often turn to a certain beach cottage by the sea.
. I take some time to visit for awhile and enjoy the sparkle of the sun dancing on the water, the calming decor of the BC, and admire completed projects, and wonder about projects not yet seen. Thanks so much for leaving the chair in the garden so I could sit a spell and enjoy.

It does the balls good to be dropped once in a while. No-one starves!
Saw the recipes were from leftover fish – round here there’s only leftover fish if no-one liked it in the first place! As dear Peg Bracken said, no-one talks of leftover whisky or leftover caviar, and if you have leftover cake there isn’t a thing in the world you can do to persuade your children to eat it.
That said, I am woofing um, surplus CRAB from fresh spring rolls I made yesterday, with fresh cilantro, lime and thinly sliced radishes…
Aaaah a lovely place to drop your balls…..I think I need to create a space for when I drop mine….sighhhhh Glad you’re feeling better xx
is that i white fence? or are you reading your fab. book against a shed or house? I’m debating painting my redwood fence white but the upkeep is what is holding me back! love your blog currently tring to redo my house white as well!

I have the best vintage cookbooks ever! I LOVE them so much!
One of them told me to “go out and catch a young hen and roast her in a slow oven”. Cracks me up! Oh, it also told me how to train my upstairs maid…….

Yippe for roadside chairs finding a new life and moments to sit and enjoy a winter afternoon filled with sunshine.
Oh Sarah, come on, share the chair. We are all excited to see. Today I returned a cute shelf to my booth which had not sold. I distressed it a bit with some sandpaper and a scraping action with a table knife. Sold in about one hour:) Also found a great box of lots of old door hardware, a great vintage clothes brush and a French book with that awesome faded patina on the cover. Cost? 25 cents US. This was just my day!
Aaaaah yes, i had a lazy day on our verandah too, check out my bloggy for photos! Didnt get as much sun but at least it wasnt freezing!

Just found your blog last week- it’s absolutely beautiful! We lived in Sydney a few years ago and I loved the things you could find on the road. We once found a perfecly good set of french doors that needed a paint and clean- perfect for our family room renovations. Can’t wait to see what you have done with your chair. Emma.
Sometimes we just have to let them all drop and just relax for a minute or two or three. Good for you for doing it.
