Hello ladies!
Ho, ho, ho, it’s such a barrel o’ laughs in BC Land. At least that’s what my husband must think looking at this list for the weekend..
And I know he hates it when it rains, ‘cos a little bit of dreary sky, which thanks be the lord, is not very often Down Under, at least not here anyway and I begin to scheme. About the house.
But I, you see, tell him that is the problem in living in an old run-down cottage…if I had a 20 mill property overlooking the harbour then, well, then I wouldn’t have anything to scheme about, would I?
It’s a funny old world really, I thought that today as I uploaded these shots…I mean he goes out to do a hard day’s work, grafting his skin to the bone, while I stay home playing Beach Cottages, making garlands outta tissue paper and coffee papers and write out lists on chalkboards of what I want him to do on our first free-ish weekend for oh about six months.
I may well just re-iterate here, though, that well-known, and much-used in embellishing one’s point saying, Happy Wife Happy Life.
I’m into garlands and tissue paper and I have no idea why. This one started with a convo with Angie on Facebook where, after my pom-pom tablescape (love that table, you can find it here) pointed me to a flower made from coffee papers and I decided I’d like to have a go myself. That didn’t work out ‘cos here on the beaches (and I have searched high and low, if you have round, white coffee papers about your person I may well have to abduct you…or of course you could offer to send me some…) I can only seem to find coffee papers that are shaped, not the round ones that I needed.
This then is the result of the screwed up papers that didn’t work…I strung them onto a piece of butcher’s twine and added some white tissue paper circles crinkled up…just because I thought it needed some white….wink*
I am thinking about stringing these on the deck, along with a bundle of tissue paper pom-poms (which it seems I am making every night..yep my family think I am odd…but I am happy) to celebrate the coming of Spring and summer…
As I hung them up I thought they’d be lovely for an outdoor celebration in a barn, or on a beach…you know?
For now I hung them on the vintage door to prettify the list of jobs…not sure if that worked lol. There were eyebrows from Mr BC when he saw this on the list…well it is Father’s Day on Sunday I must admit.
See you next week, what jobs are you gals scheming…hit me with ‘em (don’t forget you can still comment til close of play Friday to win the Donna Hay goodies).
I may stop by here with progress on the weekend
Ho Ho HO and a bottle of rum

Your garlands are looking great, will be perfect swinging in the summer breezes on a verandah!
Looks like we are having a weekend of rain here in Adelaide, so will be able to finish some summer sewing for my little girls, a few more new headbands and clips to match, a couple of little signs for a friends little girls new tree house and some down time with my Handsome Hubbie on Sunday to celebrate what an amazing Dad he is.
Hope you and yours have a great weekend.
Cheers, Nic
Fridge Makeover??
I love the rustic-ness of that garland Sarah, very simple. I made a shell garland yesterday out of the only little shells I can find on our beaches….I have it strung up on a couple of big empty white frames that are leaning against the wall in our family room and I really like the look of it if I do say so myself ;)
Don’t you just love having your weekends free to do as you please….I too have a huge list of ‘must do’s…oh and I have been following your advice of offering ‘favours’ in order to get things done, hehe!!
Hope the BC Crew have a great Father’s Day Weekend
Signing off from Sunny Perth
favours work a treat Tammi ;-)
I don’t remember you making the chalkboard door….did I miss it.? Please decide upon wallpapering and forget tissue garlands for now chicky. I am dying to see how it looks!
I did it ages ago Amy…found the door on the side of the road
Love the garland! A friend of mine used little white paper doilies glued onto an Ikea paper lantern to create the coolest light fixture. You can see it on my old blog here: http://cecilyink.blogspot.com/2009/06/fave-farm-chick-candywinkel.html (scroll down to the bottom, they’re so gorgeous when lit!)
wow!! talent, thanks for the link
Oh I want your orange cake… and your Donna Hay gifts.. I want your cottage…your skills.. on and on…lol. So please enter me in your give-away, then I at least have a chance with one of them ;)
Marilyn
too funny Marilyn…do you want my moaning skills too…or the BC broomstick??
Wow!
I love your garland, it looks great!! I am into that sort of thing too. I make garland and banners using tissue, burlap, linen, etc.
Love that door, it just looks really inviting there.
Have a happy weekend,
Rosemary
Hi Sarah,
We will be trying to get a ceiling fan up on the second floor landing. Clearing some aggresive weeds in the garden and maybe take in a movie. Ah, sports for the girls (soccer) and church. I also will be making a birthday cake for my fantistic hunk!
Hope you have a great weekend. Oh, I want to try to bake the orange cake. Donna Hays is intriguing to me now!
Thank you for he giveaway!
Always, Teresa T.
I did weed clearing this week…so therapeutic
Finally getting around to redecorating the upstairs loft in our house. My oldest daughter still lives with us because her Non-Profit career does not pay much in monetary terms – her salary is mostly the satisfaction of knowing that she is helping abused children find safe homes. I have decided to try to add a bit of sophistication to her living quarters by added some beautiful French accents and fabrics. I have a ton of fabric, trims and accessories just waiting for the big change. I can’t wait!!!
Sarah,
I love your door. My DIY list is to make a chalboard for leaving hubby clever to do lists on! lol I wish you could know what a joy your blog is to me. It is a daily treat!
thanks Victoria, too kind
Love the tissue garland, maybe one wee piece of sea glass would add a bit of sparkle…I gotta have
me some bling;-) Good luck on your list and Happy Father’s Day to your dh;-)
I’m keen to see what the fridge makeover is about – did I read that right?
I hope you get lots done. I’ve still got the sporting events happening, so my weekend has no spare time ; (
I had so much planned for this weekend… then hurricane Earl came along… me being a big English wuss, I packed the kiddies in the car and headed for the hills.. literally (my in-laws cabin, in the mountains)… sometimes having a beach cottage has it’s downside… now we’re up here and sitting it out… lets hope our rickety old house is still standing when we get back… and not in a couple of feet of water!! Otherwise, that ‘To Do’ list is about to get a whole lot bigger!!! Wishing you a nice productive weekend. Lx
yikes I am not liking the sound of that at all! I had a dream I was in an earthquake if that helps lol
Ldom ! Never consider yourself a wuss for leaving, only a smart cookie ! As a Florida Coastal resident all my life its better to be safe than sorry !
I don’t have a garland hanging anywhere, but yours is making me think it would be a good idea to change that.
We’re at the point of the year that the daylight hours are rapidly shrinking. My major project will be to play around with my schedule and move my 5:00 walk to an earlier time of day so I won’t be walking in the dark come October.
Yep that’s the problem – no kids sport so lets get into all the jobs- I have the same problem here, unfortunately mine list will have to wait- 2 lots of soccer semi finals last ssg soccer game for my 5yo and hubby playing last round of club championships in golf- guess who drew the short straw to have to ferry them about- but I WILL make him pay! It will be nose to the grinstone every weekend for quite some time
wow!!this garland is lovely!I’m preparing some for a baptism too!
Well I was planning on finishing off the painting on the outside of the house, but the weather isn’t looking to good for it at the moment – raining here. Hope you get your jobs all done.
I am planning on watching my hubby help assemble our new kitchen…which has been in the pipelines for 5months…& I must add has been painted in ‘white on white’ I can’t wait to see it all put together!! enjoy your weekend XO
Hi Sarah, I noticed on your vintage door list you mentioned a “fridge makeover” I have been planning the same thing recently as our new
appliances are white, and my old fridge is “bisque”. After much debate we decided to paint it. There are lots of new products around now for those of you who want a “stainless steel” I stumbled across this product Thomas Liquid Stainless Steel, it’s a paint product. However
We have decided to use the roll on appliance paint in white by Rustoleum. It is an epoxy paint and covers well. For the handles I’m planning on spraying them with the same brand in a spray paint for plastic, and We (meaning my hubby) will tape off all the “steel” accents to keep them as they are, which are really small bits. It’s just one of the few “honey dos” we have going at the moment. Love your blog, especially the videos.
Oh I love the chalk board door…tooo cute!
And those garland flowers are perfect…….
My hubbys to do list is shorter then mine {not fair I know} But he does pitch in and help me with mine so I can’t complain! :-)
We are going to entertain company all weekend and go to the parade on monday! And try to relax and enjoy the last weekend of summer!
Smiles, Dolly
I’m trying to think where I could put my own tissue paper garland! I love it! As for this weekend, well, so far I’ve just got the house cleaning to do, but there could be more because we just moved into our place and it still needs a little love in the decor department. Maybe a little tissue garland will help!
The tissue paper garlands are pretty – but I love those dangling shells hanging next to them in the first photograph! You are so creative.
I ADORE your cottage , and that chalkboard on the door is both functional and charming.-ingenious! So happy I ran across your blog today…it’s fabulous!!
Dear Sarah, maybe you should remind Mr. BC that your cottage keeps you busy and out of trouble! LOL
My thing for this weekend is to hopefully make two batches of soap, an “Oatmeal Cookie” batch and “Grandmother’s Rose Petal” batch. I harvested rose petals and they are nice and dry and perfect. YAY!
I’m also hoping to take a hike in the wildlife refuge this weekend.
God bless!
Oh I adore it all! Very festive.
I’m hoping we can finally hang up a couple of chandeliers and some headboards in the guest room – that’s if Mr. Roy can finish his utility trailer project outside! But it is a long weekend so I plan on enjoying every minute regardless!
Be sure to enter my handbag giveaway! :)
Greetings from LA. No, that’s not Los Angeles: It’s lower Alabama. We live on the Gulf Coast (think recent oil spill…), and your beach taste, though far from me in distance, is near to my heart. I’ve visited your beautiful home many times and been very inspired to make some of the changes you have made in our own Dauphin Island home. I wish you and your family a spring and summer with soft breezes and beautiful memories.
Hi Sarah,
They’re so pretty your garlands, dreamy softness to blow in the sea wind. Quite romantic, I may have to make some soon (or try ;)
Get you on your husband being away with the grafts… hubby’s been working on project for months now and I’m doing my Wine Country Living thing, happy as can be… you’re right, happy wife, happy life!
Have a great weekend!
~Tracie
Never found those round ones here either. At least not in quantities that are sane. They are only used in restaurant kitchens here so you can get them at warehouse stores, a 1000 at a time. Well that was a bit much even for me. So I have been scheming other tissue solutions too.
Love your garland!
you inspire me. I normally stick to sewing but this week I am updating a chest of drawers
Sarah love the garland. Even without the right filters you have created a gorgeous garland. Love the white with it.
Alison
Love the garland. Very pretty.
Ill get with my daughter this weekend and see if she has any filters left. If so…..you will be having a package coming your way ! Oh and by the way…..where do you get the WHITE shells??? do you paint them first?
