Howdy? How you going?
Well we are roasting here in BC Land, it has been really sweltering the last couple of days.
So what to do then when faced with high temps that make every little movement an effort? Well why not lock yourself in a very small room, lump furniture around for hours, then change your mind ‘cos it doesn’t look right and move it all back again.
Yeah that sounds like a good idea when it’s touching one hundred degrees.
I’ve hit a coupla stumbling points in the study makeover…firstly being the fact that the old filing cabinet, that I showed you before (that I had to persuade the lovely Mr BC to go pick up from Salvos), doesn’t actually fit in anywhere where it either looks pleasing or is not cumbersome to the flow of the room, which is the whole point in this Give The Study A New Life Makeover.
And secondly, moving the desk under the window, which I wanted to do to help with the flow, the work area, the light and so that I could gaze out and look at kookaburras in the morning with my coffee, has actually meant that the simple blind that is there now is nowhere near good enough unless I want to start sporting a broad-brimmed hat and sunnies while I am inside to block the sun.
So, that leads me to making some curtains or a blind or both…..there is one good side to this…you see as part of my de-cr*ppifying of this huge effort I seem to have come across rather a lot of stashed fabric. Goodness knows how it got there
. (And I guess that I shouldn’t tell you here, just in case Mr BC is reading, which he won’t be, that I found also in said stash, not one but FIVE pairs of curtains, ahem, and they were still in the packet…)
Anyway the window dressing, would you believe it will be natural, maybe white, with some hessian thrown in if I am up to working with that stuff in this heat…
So that is it for today my friends…this is the little sneak peak of the corner of the room that is beginning to look like what I was thinking rather than what it looked like before which was nothing other than a shameful messy overflow of my treaure hunting…
See you back here in the morning (I think that will be Tues evening for some of you guys) for a bit of blog hopping…and stop and smell the roses things at BC Good Life Wednesdays
…well that’s if I haven’t been put in prison for killing a young-I-am-soooooooooo-bored-child-cos-its-week 6-but-feels-like-week 66-of-the-summer-holidays…

p.s. if you like the beach, yellow shoes, jeans, ruffles & lovehearts…go here and swoon baby

I had to laugh your posts from today and yesterday’s and your comments about your temps. When I headed for the pool this morning at 6:00, it was -27C (and that was without the wind) so was one of those mornings that my hair froze on the way back to the car when I was done. Luckily it warmed up to -14 today! But at least the sun was shining and I did have to pull the blind down in the study. Looking forward to seeing your finished study.
your hair froze! wowza, I’d like to experience that..but don’t spose I ever will now…x
There is sure a sweltering heat wave hanging over Perth too…I am so over 40 degree days!!
Am liking the look for your corner so far…particularly love those wooden pegs…yep easy to pleae I am!
Um if you can’t find a home for your file cabinet I know just the place in mine
I can’t believe I just found you! Your blog is fab, and you are too funny… kinda sounds like my adventures sometimes. Going to stay awhile a take a look around. Beautiful photos. Love your home, Sarah. Australia sounds fun, stay cool. We are cold here in Louisiana.
Nice to meet you
Sarah, I love what you’ve done so far. The flowers are gorgeous. The bus sign in the corner? Is it one of your creations? It gets incredibly hot here too. But the hottest summer heat I’ve ever felt was when I went to Vegas. In the heart of the summer it was 117 degrees, and you know how you think it might cool down at night? Nup…never go to Vegas in the Summer. It’s been foggy, and damp here. I’ve been hoping for a little Spring, even my Dog seems depressed lol.
I just love your decorating style – I am even incorporating a very “white” theme into my home! The hubby is still trying to negotiate, but I think we all know that the men rarely win decorating battles! I cannot wait to see what the study looks like when you are finished – I adore your photos as much as your lovely home!
PS – I am so very jealous of your weather – it was NEGATIVE 20 up in Maine this morning! I am aching for spring to start
I that a new bus blind I spy???????
of course not
do not tell mr bc, he hasn’t noticed x
oh sarah- i am still trying to organise my study/sewing room…
if i sew you some hessian thingy’s to hold back those 5 packets of curtains you seem to have found ….will you organise a corner of my room for me!!
and is that a new {??} bc bus blind??
you didn’t mention except in the intro??

so in case i forget…happy australia day to you and yours….your first as fair dinkum aussies??!!
hmm I have done enough organizing for the next millenium!
Sarah ~ Pop in to my new apartment in Chicago for afternoon tea . . . you will enjoy the temperature change and snow.
Fondly,
Glenda
What I wouldn’t do for 100 degreee temps!! Let’s see….it’s on ly 20 degrees this morning!!!
Hey Sarah,
once your window dressings are sorted it may make a big difference to how the filing cabinet looks in the room. Flowing hessian and white sheers soften everything. It always takes a lot of shifting around to get it right. It’s taken me SEVEN years to get my craft room right. But I still would like a higher work table. I’m tall, and bending cutting out fabric and patterns does my back in. Hope you can work out a spot for the cabinet. It’d be a shame if it never really worked in there.
Cheers,
Lisa x
It’s almost as hot here in Buenos Aires, with high humidity yet one of the driest summers in the last decade. We’re all gazing at the sky and trying to figure out when it will finally rain and hoping for a fresh breeze to keep it cooler for a few days. I really love the jug with the white flowers and the contrast with the bus route sign. Can’t wait to see the reveal.
It’s difficult for me to imagine hot weather when the wind child was minus 23F here yesterday. I need to live somewhere where the temps are between 50-80 degrees F.
Hi Sarah,
I too struggled to include a vintage filing cabinet in my workspace upstairs (which to be honest is just a landing!) Finaly I popped my cabinet back downstairs and got one a new one from Ikea- white, compact and perfectly streamlined. I know how much you love Ikea!!!
Love it so far – can’t WAIT to see the finished results!
65F here.
Been doing some de-cr*pifying ourselves. Lovely purging this is! But without all the heat of summer
Just learned about magnetic paint and how to use that on a wall – so thinking with your ideas with chalk-board paint and this magnetic stuff- I could make a bangin’ memo board right on the wall!
Keep the good stuff comin’!
I have been taking down books and painting bookshelves in the heat.
I would actually like another couple of weeks holiday to get organised for the year ahead, but I am not going to get it!
Happy Australia Day! How do you celebrate? Fireworks? Barbie? Beer?
all of the above
