Aloha!
How are you?
Well I am still here, my server is still here, the kiddos are off on holidays and life is very good…
Wanna see my new, ooh I mean old ;-) quilt and a little change around in my bedroom?
Come on in.
You see the problem with not having a blog to blog on is you get a lot more time for foofing…
and my bedroom had gotten undtidy and I had been skimming the cleaning…you know?
so I foofed and changed the bedding and took the opportunity to put the quilt on
the quilt is the sister to this quilt below I bought last year and nearly had a coronary when I saw it at Anthropologie….(you can see that & the more of the bedroom here)
This one was in a local boutique to me and I had my eye on it for like ever…I know exactly when…we came back from Noosa on holiday, so that was in January and I saw with surprise that this little shop had started dabbling in homewares and blow me down if the cushion I had been lusting after to go with that Anthropologie quilt was right there in their front window…
I went in and oohed and ahhhed…
something in the back of my mind though told me to hold my horses…plus I really could not justify over 300 dollars for another quilt to add to the ahem already large and growing quilt collection that afflicts this cottage….AND I had my eye on the waterfall ruffle quilt (now a proud owner and yet to show you) to match the ruffle curtain hanging at the window…
…so I waited and waited and waited…
and those quilts and cushions didn’t seem to be going anywhere and so I waited some more
and then recently I just popped in on the offchance to see if my friend, the sister to the quilt I had on my bed was reduced…I picked up the pillow that I loved (find that here) and blow me down, not only was it on sale, it was half price. I danced…
and I ran to the bank to get some cash…
and here it is…
So with sun streaming in this week, I pulled everything out, hoovered up those dust bunnies baby…got that Dettol rocking and flung the things that I had been stuffing under the bed to ‘tidy up’
Sigh
Much much better
I know that there are a lot of you visiting this blog that are new, hence the server fiasco, so I thought I might show you what this room looked like when we bought it…
nice huh?
designer cottage on the beaches ;-)
My camelias are also out and absolutely blooming everywhere…I don’t quite know how there could be so many more flowers and buds this year…but last year after they had bloomed I spent some time pulling all the dead stuff out…it felt like they were sighing in gratitude at the time…I am fairly certain that no-one in this cottage who lived here before paid them any attention whatsoever and so I think this might be my pay-back for camelia-lovin’
There are so many blooms and the branches are so heavy that there are lots on the grass and every morning I have been going out to pick a few off the tree and collect those from the floor and then just plop them around all over the place….love doing that…nothing like bringing some of the outdoors in in the winter…
I put these by Mr BC’s bed…when he came home from work and went in here to freshen up in the en-suite he came out saying there’s something really stinky in our bedroom…
what?
it appears that the blossoming fragrance of hyacinth is not quite as sweet to my darling husband as it is to me
…shame, I have bulbs sprouting everywhere outside…
the old ladder was part of a longer wooden one…I found it on my treasure hunting and painted it white
and this glass jar I found the other week…I was on my way home from my walk and coffee and stopped at a new thrift store that’s opened up…I had heard a few negative things about it…that it was super-duper over-priced and it had obnoxious things written on the price tags.
Yep. What I had heard was 150 per cent correct…this so called ‘charity’ shop, where people donate things for ahem charity was ridiculous….
I am so over that…and it seems so are a lot of other people like me who used to love nothing more than spending time hunting out vintage things…it kinda takes away the thrill when someone has put a label on it that would be more suited to some upmarket antique shop and labelled it ‘vintage oldie’
I liked this jar though and it was surprisingly not an arm and a leg…quite interesting it’s actually stamped Pyrex on the bottom…I thought it would be lovely as a vase, but I wonder what it’s purpose originally was? Some kinda bottling I assume…?
…the door came in from the Sitting Room…(I am having a change around in there too…and I am trying to persuade Mr BC to do some painting..it needs a freshen up)…I got the door from a garage sale, it was $5 and not even for sale, it was stacked up at the side of the garage…
I have been looking for a similar one ever since…but no luck as of yet…I love how it is not too bulky…easy to just stand around looking pretty anywhere you fancy…and I love how it’s naturally creamy and aged and shabby…not easy to buy that when you want to…
So that’s it from me…if I lose my server again I am moving around the Family Room…still haven’t gotten around to that makeover since my new boyfriend the patio door moved in…
Happy Weekend kiddos, we are going out for dinner this weekend and tonight is Movie Night in my amazingly interesting life…
p.s. you can see the Summer Version when the bed moves to under the window for the breeze coming in off the coast here

Just wondering which shop you are talking about – the over priced thrift shop, I stalk all the local ones to me in Brookvale and wondering if you would name it so I can check it out, thanks! And love the room!

Hi Sarah,
A friend of mine and I are in love with your white wrought iron bed. Did you find in a store or were just lucky finding it on one of your charity shop hunts?
thanks much!
Annette
Hi Annette
I bought it in a bed shop when we first moved here – they no longer do it…however IKEA have a very similar one at the moment
hope that helps

Hi Sarah,
Thank you for your reply and the IKEA tip. Found the bed! Good stuff to work with there.
