Australia Love, I heart you Aussies…Happy Australia Day

G’day Beach Cottage lovelies.

Well, it’s my favourite day of the year.

HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY!

…this is why I heart you Australia…

Australians all let us rejoice,

for we are young and free

We’ve golden soil and wealth for toil;

Our home is girt by sea;

Our land abounds in nature’s gifts

Of beauty rich and rare;

In history’s page, let every stage

Advance Australia Fair.

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross

We’ll toil with hearts and hands;

To make this Commonwealth of ours

Renowned of all the lands;

For those who’ve come across the seas

We’ve boundless plains to share;

With courage let us all combine

To Advance Australia Fair.

In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia Fair.

    yep, had NO idea of the second verse and I’v been Australian all my life! haha

    Great pictures… just proving once again how lucky we are to live by the sea… but you know what? I’m really looking forward to your take on the red centre, our outback because it’s such an extreme from the seaside. But equally amazing. :)

    Happy Australia Day to you too my dear XX

    Happy Australia Day Sarah.

    Photos are gorgeous, we are so lucky arent we to live in such a beautiful country.

    We went for a gorgeous walk thru the bush to a rugged part of our coastline this morning – where waves crashed against the rocky, sandy, shell filled, pristine beach. We found a ton of beach glass and other treasures and did not see another soul. What an amazing way to celebrate Australia Day was my thought!

    best wishes to you and your family xx

    Happy Australia Day! The thing I loved about Australia Day when I was growing up is that it always helped me remember when my parents’ birthdays were – my father’s birthday is on January 25; my mother’s on January 27, with Australia Day sandwiched in between.

    What a beautiful post Sarah. Its republic day in India today but i really cannot share the same happy feelings. I am proud of what the country was and still is, but I am equally disgraced by the people and the way things work here. Its time I crossed shores you know. I feel something is missing here.

    Love to the aussies and to the free spirits :) Enjoy your day. Happy aussie day.

    Ahh, thanks for that! I had to learn that and sing it every week with my students in their assemblies during my teaching prac. It brings back very fond memories.

    I’d like to do a little celebration with my girls in honour of Australia Day tomorrow (it’s still the 25th here) but can’t decide what to do. We might make ANZAC biscuits…

    Happy Australia Day!!

    Great pics, we really are so lucky – thanks for the Australia love :-) puts some Aussies to shame. Today we are celebrating my Hubbies 20th Anniversary of becoming an Aussie – Happy Australia day to the Beach Cottage crew!

  16. It sure is a great place to be!
    We just have to hope that Political decisions don’t ruin it. Sometimes I think that because it is so good they think we can all do it a bit tougher, like we’ve got it too good, instead of making it all so much better.

    Lovely thoughts and beautiful photos. I am so proud of this beautiful country.

    Peter Dodds McCormick, who composed Advance Australia Fair, is a distant cousin of mine and buried at Rookwood cemetery in Sydney. I still remember singing as a school kid the original words “Australian men let us rejoice for we are young and free”.

    A quick question…why do you always wear a scarf tied around your neck? You’re at the beach ffs!

    • sarah says:

      thanks for your question

      I always wear a scarf because I have a wrinkly old ladies neck, I am really 79 years old (shhhh don’t tell anyone on my blog) but I have had lots of surgery everywhere but my neck, so I just add a scarf to cover it up…simple!

      and my neck is always soooooooooo chilly… so I kill two birds with one stone – cover up the wrinkles & keep warm

      remember my little trick, heehee it’s such a good one

      xo

  33. Glad you had such a happy day! Great photos!!
