Hey Beach Cottage ladies, we have a new girl in the house…she’s white, she’s clean, she’s new but with a vintage feel, boy do I love her curves, she was made for me…and I am gonna dress her up so she’s coastal and nautical and beachy and sitting happily in my old cottage near the sea…
I have waited a long time for this girl in my life…as you know, not long after we bought this old place, we had a change of life plan and we took Mr Beach Cottage working locally and starting his own business and being able to be involved with the BeachCottage Crew over money in the city…it’s been a big big step and meant that most house renovation stuff went seriously on hold…
Things are going pretty well, meaning the 80′s bathroom, that we’ve made over, twice, is finally getting the push and a new one is going in..
And yesterday arvo, I opened the tub.
I love her.
Full stop.
to say I am looking forward to this bathtub is an understatement
I am not after anything fancy-schmancy in here…we are still doing this on a fairly tight budget and doing some of it ourselves
…after toying with vintage fittings etc I decided I wanted new and clean..plus in this part of the cottage a vintage bath would have been rather out of place…so I decided I wanted a vintage feel with a modern edge…
I am hoping that is the look that I acheive at the end of it all.
There was no negotiation on the bathtub style though, apart from the fact, that with the floor (plus the weight of the water going in it) it had to be light….I also wanted stand-alone & clawfoot…and not the modern type of stand-alone…moons ago in England we had a new bathroom put in and then I went for a stand-alone but the more modern style (you know the ones I mean?) and always heartily regretted it…this is the sort of bath I have spent about my whole ******* life dreamin’ of…
I spend a mahusive amount of time in the bath…I know to some people that is very odd…and I have been told countless times that it is very very English to be getting in the bath…
Once when I first came to Australia, I was studying and had to go to Adelaide for a study session…it required an overnight stay…my kiddos were much younger then and because we didn’t have any friends or support system here, or anyone to help out with the babysitting I had not had any time off from the kiddos just for me, for a long time…get the violins out…so I was so very very very much looking forward to getting away, studying or not…
Anyway, Mr Beach Cottage took the time off work to look after the kiddos, I boarded the plane and got on my way…I was not interested too much in the studying, more the two nights in a hotel…in a tub, with my book and a drink.
When I arrived at the hotel…it was a very nice hotel, thank you Mr Beach Cottage…I checked in, went up to the room, dropped my bags and went into the bathroon to start running the bath.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
There was no tub! There was a dirty great double-headed large, luxurious power shower that did magic things to you, but no bath! I literally couldn’t quite believe my eyes…in fact I did quite the most stupid thing, I started ‘looking’ for it…like it was gonna be hidden in the cupboard, or on the balcony or something.
But to no avail, I promptly picked up my luggage and went downstairs to the front desk and told the girl the problem.
She frowned at me and said
‘In Australia’ (she had obviously clocked my Pommie accent) not all rooms come with a bath’
I leaned over the counter a little bit.
And said
‘Lady I have not been without my 3 children for a very long time. I am tired, worn out and needing a break. I have been in Sydney for months counting down the days, the hours, the seconds until I stepped foot in your hotel and in your bath. I need a tub, I don’t care if I am in the back end of Australia, or Timbuktoo, I don’t care how you get it but I need a bath and I need it like pronto!’
She looked at me very very strangely, as if I were some kind of strange person from some strange land where strange people take baths.
And started clicking on the computer. Tap, tap, click, click.
I looked at her like this
(try this pose if you want something, head to side, eyes up, hands togoether…it nearly always works )
And after much tapping and banging, staring and clicking, she looked up, and said that she didn’t have a room at the price I”d paid for with a tub…
I about cried right there in the lobby…
but she said…I can see just how much you need a bath, so I’ve upgraded you to a suite… at no extra charge…there’s one seriously nice bath in there, with a view…
‘I’ll have your bath, some bubbles to drink on the side and a fruit platter to enjoy,if you’d just like to take a seat’
Well, I almost jumped over the desk and kissed her…
And nothing has changed here in this old cottage even with the old 80′s bath I’ve been with for the last few years, in fact, it has to be said, it’s the best bath I have ever had the fortune to soak in…I still spend hours in the bath, and I still love the bath…if I have had a stressful day, if it is anything past about 8pm, if I have a good book, if I am cranky, if I am happy, if I am needing to get away…I head to that tub…and everything else seems to soak away
But.
There is one small problem.
My friend here needs a name. As soon as I unwrapped her and welcomed her into our journey to this new land of Australia, I thought she needs name, she will need a naming ceremony.
And I hope you are gonna help.
Bathroom renovations are starting here tomorrow…
and before she goes in I want to give her a name…
The first thing I though was Polly but I’d love to hear yours…
Cheers from Beach Cottage Land
p.s. yes I like sitting in my bath on the deck, fully clothed and yes I bribed my teenage son to take these…you shoulda seen the eyebrows…
(try this just released from the lunatic asylum pose if above post didn’t work, it nearly always works )
How about Tessa? Or Rosie? I’m planning a refit of our bathroom so I’m very interested to see what you come up with Sarah. I’m thinking lots of light; white; shiny porcelain and shiny chrome but all in traditional shapes, then natural materials for texture. How about you?
Here in NZ we often see old clawfoot baths sitting in paddocks being used as water troughs for the livestock! I guess they got re-purposed when the farmhouse bathroom got “updated”.
You’re funny! Love the faces and the poses – I can just picture the hotel reception scene, I bet she re-told that story a few times!
Now as for names, I obviously like the suggestion for “Beth”, but I was thinking, seeing as the hotel story is so good is there a name that you could take that links to that – do you remember the receptionists name or the name of the hotel?
Just before I go, as someone who renovated a bathroom a year ago can I impart some advice? Try sitting in the bath in the position is will be in the bathroom , but don’t forget where the taps go! I sat in mine, was all pleased with it and then when it got fitted and the tap came out of the wall, I realised that I would have to sit with my back on the opposite end which is with my back to the door… It feels all wrong! Oh, and a dimmer switch is a must.
Enjoy.
x
yes Beth…we’ve actually scheduled a couple of days to put the china in and pretend live with it to see how it works…our plumber recommended we do that, especially as we are knocking out a wall etc so the space will totally change!
A good idea to name her after the hotel…errm I will have to do a bit of googling!
I love love love a long bath too Sarah. it’s the most devine thing in the world. a couple of years ago we redid the bathroom. ( After waiting 23 years with a 60′s style bathroom, and.. shutter the thought…. I am married to a plumber!) Well when I finally got the redo, you could not drag me out of that tub with wild horses. So comfy, and cozy and I would just keep making it hotter and hotter. The tub has the same shape as yours but a drop in tub. Did I say that I Love love love it.?? I can see it now, you in there with your iphone facebookin and tweetin, just don’t drop it in!!
Enjoy.
Congratulations. It’s splendid. I think it will be another some years before I can have one of these curvy ladies! (Did that sound right?) Lol. And of course, this tub is never going out of fashion. Very classic.
Bathe you beauty, bathe in all its glory. It simply rocks \m/
Sarah,
At the get go I thought you had a pup!
But your sleek tub is an awesome addition, too.
After much pondering in my own tub (a daily soaker here!) I am throwing two names into the pool, er, tub.
First, Kai that means ocean or sea salt water. And sounds Aussie to me, how you all might say, o”kay”.
The second is Coventina: Celtic name meaning “water goddess”. And…we all are coveting your new girl!
Love the room tale in the middle! Like a fab post welcoming the new addition wasn’t already enough. Love the pics too. Well done teenage son. Well done.
sarah I have always loved baths and you wanna know something else so does the hubby and my kids! we looked at a house when we first arrived here in mich and it was a cute old charmer loved it!!! til i went to the bathroom and was like no tub??? and then looked in the other bathroom i said none here either?? he said well how often do people really use the bath anyway???? i said well you dont know my family everysingle day!!!!! in fact i just took a nice long soak lit a million candles and soaked it up because kids were off with the hubby!!! shes a beauty this tub of yours!!!! i dont know why but for some odd reason the name violet popped tight into my head sounds british to me i guess!!!
cant wait to see the seaside bath all done up!!!
thanks kim! it seems a few people think Violet…does sound very British
yeah I have had the same thing said to me…I think that is weird to say tha ta bath wouldn’t get used….errrm I like really get my money’s worth outta mine….cheaper than therapy
x
I know what you mean about baths. It’s the thing I look forward to most when I stay away, but I haven’t had a bath in about a year. I’m going away with my Hubby at the end of this month. I’ll be making sure I squeeze in some tub time. For sure. x
Ah yes I too love a good soak…only trouble is we have a half bath…who on earth puts in a bath the size of a cot? I don’t even see the point. There’s no stretching out in it to allow all the kinks to work themselves out, no sirry you end up feeling so cramped that you feel worse than you did when you got in
Anyway that aside….I LOVE your new girl…I’d be chaining myself to her for sure.
xx
Tammi, I know what you mean! we were recently in a hotel with the strangest bath, it was shorter than normal and not as deep as normal…gave the most odd bathing experience..
Sarah you made me laugh so much with your “how to get what you want” pose and instruction – I am going to practice it:)
Your bath is completely gorgeous. How about the name “Bubbles” to reflect bubble baths, a glass of champagne and the gorgeous ’roundedness’ of your bath?
Just dying to see your finished bathroom – it will be as gorgeous as everything else you do:)
For some strange reason I think you should call it Bliss. Like it just popped up. I don’t know why I am telling this…might sound very out of place…but I had to tell you. And also listen to Adele while bliss-ing! Heard her? She is AWESOME Sarah.
The name which came to my mind straight away was Lola as its glamourous, lady like and you will do a lit of lolling around in her!
Enjoy, it looks dreamy x x
awwww Sarah you are too cute! i love your aqua shorts and woohooo for the bath!
I think you should call her ‘at last’ after the song by Etta James lol i can imagine you up to your neck in bubbles singing ‘ at last my bath has come along,my lonely nights are over’
I love baths and had to have a talk with my friends who are opening a b and b and shock horror were only going to have showers in the bathrooms….can you imagine? oh yes you can
x
Love the tub & I enjoy watching you put everything together—reminds me of the old clawfoot we had in our honeymoon cottage many years ago.
For whatever reason the name Sally pops into mind—perhaps from “Sally shall sell seashells down by the seashore”. Whatever name you decide have a blast with your new tub & here’s to some righteous good soaks!
I am absolutely with you on the bath thing! Here in America, people usually have both ashower and a tub and people are split about tub liking or shower liking. Usually, we tub-lubbers take showers as a necessity concerning time, but we do love our soaking and reading in the tub when we get the chance. I’d never buy a house without one. Anyway, how about a nautical name from a famous vintage song? Bonnie, as in, “My Bonnie lies over the ocean, my bonnie lies over the sea…” It popped into my head as soon as I read she needed a name…and yes, tubs are she’s. Don’t tell anyone, but even my boys take a soak occassionally and especially if they want to take a soak with vapor bath when having to deal with a cold. Ah, the tub. I’m going right now to warm up in a steaming tub. It’s winter here in Oklahoma, which means more tub time for me
I think Polly is perfect! Then when you need to escape you can just say “I’m just going to check on Polly” and your guests, family, friends will all think you’ve got a new parrot or puppy or kid and never even suspect you’ve disappeared to the bathtub:-)
Tracey
She looks like a Matilda or Tilly to me. She’s a beauty, that’s for sure. I am more of a shower person myself, so I probably would have been in heaven with that shower in your hotel room (except for the dirty part, of course), but I sure got a laugh out of your story.
I bet you can’t wait for the dust to settle on your bathroom renovation so you can have a nice, long soak in your new tub.
I love your beachy blog and I love your idea for naming this lovely gal. How about Sandy or Pearl? I love bathtub time I would go for something like Roxanne because I can see myself quietly rocking out to the Police and other oldies while up to my neck in bubbles. Or Betty… a jacuzzi tub could be Benny (… and the jets, hee-hee)
American baths tend to be hideous shallow horse troughs: no comfy slope to lean back against, water level at mid-thigh(lying down) -
I imported my bath from Canada after leaping into about fifty of the things, endless trouble, but I’m happy now, it is smooth and deep, and there’s a dear little ridge to rest my neck against…
I would call your bath The Vessel, but I bet you won’t.
Sarah, How ’bout Tatiana?? as in Tatty ( tatty old beach house) and Anna (“one who gives”..as I’m sure she will give you many hours of pleasure)..This one came to me at work today…Don’t know how you’ll ever decide. It’s been great fun reading all the ideas! Deb
Hi Sarah … She looks like a BERTHA to me bertha the bath !!! got one myself ( but I just call her friend) hello my old friend ….. can always count on her to be there when I need her !!!! enjoy ……
I totally understand the whole bath thing. I love a good soak with a book and bubbles.
A few years ago I chose a unit to rent that was advertised as having a bath. Well, I obviously didn’t look properly during the inspection because after I moved in I found that the ‘bath’ was just the (very tiny) shower with a slightly sunken base that you could plug and the water came up just over your ankles. Total disappointment.
The only good thing to come out of it was that when my little nieces stayed over they loved having their ‘bath shower’ and actually looked forward to their visit because of it. Kids are very easily pleased.
How bout Bubble the Bathtub? I have the same (similar) hard to tell from pics, tub. Nothing better than escaping with a glass of vino and a candle – ahhhh! Can’t wait to see more
Kelly
I love my tub. It’s not glamorous like your new girl but she is a regular sized tub with jets. I have spinal arthritis and the jets really help. I take a bath Every Single Day with a book and bubbles and jets! I love my bath! Polly sounds like a winner to me for your lush new girl.
welllll, i like the name Adelaide.
Maybe it’s silly, but you seem to have fond memories of a bath in Adelaide…
& i think the name is pretty cute, & not one i hear often here in the States
i might have to use it myself!
G'day! I'm Sarah, I live in a tatty old cottage, near the sea in Australia with a battered old deck & a big old fig tree out the back...stripped wooden floors, old sash windows & a jumble of vintage furniture. [Read More …]
Beach Cottage ladies, we have some vintage linen and some wood/twig washed up on the beach today here in Beach Cottage Land….don’t say I don’t keep you entertained now will you . Come on in. So, yep I have posted about colanders on this blog, about things sourced from the side of the road, about [...]
G'day ladies, let's have a Too Easy Beach Cottage recipe yeah? The original place for Too Easy Recipes on the web ;-)
So, after my last salad went down a storm in my inbox, that's here if you missed it, I had to do this one seeing as I make it most weeks.
There is a problem with this salad and kiddos though...it looks, well, it looks, kinda yucky...but once they try it, they'll ask if and when they are next having it....at least that's what happens in this ratty old cottage...but I must interject here that my kiddos are 'good eaters'? ...they didn't get a choice in that ;-)
Now, stop, don't start running and hitting that next on your blog reading list, pulses are your best friend in the Too Easy Dump & Go kitchen for the busy mum, or busy anyone for that matter...that reminds me I must blog the garlic canneloni Go To for when you forgot to do dinner, feel like a bath but have three ravenous young Beach Cottage Kiddos on your hands...another day.
I am almost embarrassed to tell you how easy this is, we have it so much that I always have a couple, make that six, cans of lentils around and a jar of goat's cheese in the fridge...the great thing about this is that it's all too easy to get ready in just a few minutes, but it looks, tastes and seems like you did oh so very much more than that.
You can obviously too change it up a bit depending on what you have to hand in your kitchen, and I must say that is how I settled on this version...because one day when I made it I didn't have enough Parsley in the garden and so I chucked in some basil too, and liked the Summer feel it added.
I think of this as being a rather posh salad, not sure why, because it couldn't really be further from the truth...the great thing is that it works so well for an average run of the mill day, (when I did this for this blog post, it was a hot Sydney Sunday and I did it just simply to go with Rosemary & Garlic stuffed pork, you can see that pork here),
...but just as easily it works on a regular old Wednesday night when you have lost all enthusiasm for rustling up yet another meal, or indeed on Saturday night, when your friends are on their way over for dinner and you my friend, are in your new vintage inspired clawfoot bathtub (that's me in a few weeks time, k?) without any clothes on, a tipple and no idea what to cook for dinner...
I have a complicated and ever-changing relationship with goat's cheese...it never fails me in its performance and it never fails to impress me (you can find out a bit more on what I like in food here if you like) and I kinda collect it...because it's very easy to collect and has a fairly long fridge-life, I love trying out different ones and there's not many things I love more than goat's cheese on sourdough...but I think the best thing about it is not thinking about it exclusively in the toast/salad department...I've stuffed it in chicken and all sorts of things as a last minute and it's been fab.
But let's get down to the nitty gritty of this super salad that makes you look like an angel who has been on her knees all day scrubbing the front step when really you are in the digital world and spent most of ...
G'day Beach Cottage ladies, howdy, howdy howdy today for a Beach Cottage Too Easy recipe.
If you like cake, cream, sugar and chocolate, make this.
This is, rather than a recipe, a putting it together...as you know I am no dessert maker, but, I do make quite a few sweet things, because, somehow I have ended up with kiddos, who in their roles as offspring, believe that part of the deal, is that not only do I feed them a home-cooked meal with a few homegrown ingredients in there, yes, they also believe that dessert and not the kind that comes out of a packet is included too in this All-Inclusive Deal they call Parenthood.
So, this, for sure, is no culinary masterpiece, but if you are looking for something that is so very easy, dump-able, uses everyday ingredients and at the same time makes you look like you spent hours pulling things together plus tastes good....well, then this is for you.
Best though, you don't make this for yourself, if you have spent the most part of your week sitting on your derriere reading blogs...this my friend ain't low in the calories department...if, however, you are treating yourself to a delight in a mason jar, this is so for you.
I first had a version of this when at dinner back in Old Blighty with a girl, I once, in another life, caught the train up from our village to London with...she was a funny thing really...I am not quite sure how we got on...she was kinda prissy and a bit bothered by too much...I would run to the train flustered, having got up late, and she would have a spreadsheet on the train times, if you know what I mean.
Anyway, a few years later when we both had bambinos, I bumped into her again and we met up for playdates and dinner sometimes....this particular night, after a lovely meal she served up little bowls of creamy, cakey fruity stuff topped off with chocolate flake...it was delicious!
She didn't serve hers in little jars like this, hers were in a champagne glass and not quite so layered as these ones, plus she used tinned fruit not fresh or frozen.
Years later when said offspring kept requesting dessert, one day I wangled together somehow these from what was around in the fridge and they've been with us ever since.
Most likely, if you ever come here for dinner, and shock horror, you dont' bring the dessert with you, this, if you are lucky, will be what you will get.
Throw it all together, sprinkle a lil bit of chocolate on the top and the blog reading past-time you so rudely left in order to make this, is my friend, your oyster.
Beach Cottage Too Easy Layered Raspberry, Cream & Sponge Dessert
1 small maderia or butter cake or a pack of cupcakes (or of course make your own)
1/2 cup whipping cream
1/2 cup cream cheese
1/4 cup sugar
8 tbsp fruit
1 x chocolate Flake or chocolate bar for grating
1. beat the cream cheese until it is soft
2. whip the cream until soft peaks form
3. combine & add the sugar through
4. cut your cake into portions
& layer into the bottom of your jar
5. add a tablespoon of fruit
6. layer on top the cream combo
7. repeat
8. grate chocolate or Flake on top
*Beach Cottage Recipe Notes : this is just a guide really, you can use any cream that you have on hand...I have made this with clotted cream (don't even go there unless you want to seriously get these babies on your thighs), with double cream and I have even, in desperate times squirted in that, ...
G'day Beach Cottage ladies, well I thought it was time for some blogging tips here today, alongside a few nice flowers and shells ;-)
I was recently part of a blogger discussion group over at Kidspot and a couple of hours later had a few questions from girls who couldn't make it to the live chat, one was on my Facebook page and one via email, the Facebook one I will deal with in another Real Girl Blogging Tips post...the email one asked me what essentials do I think every blog needs?
Well I have been around here for a while now doing the blogging thing, so I should know this, yeah and I mused this on my walk by the sea this morning I thought well what do you only need?
...I think it is really very easy when blogging, whether or not you are blogging up there in the lofty heights of the Super Bloggers or you are just dipping your toe in the water, to get side-tracked by 101 million different things that are 'essential' to your blog and if you are someone like me who actually gets a thrill from reading blogging tips then you are in an even worse place because you will find yourself literally buzzing with these essential things to add/do/implement on your blog.
However, walking along, gulping down that brisk sea air today (no sunshine & clouds) I thought you actually don't need any of that professional blogging stuff to be successful...but there are a few things that are pretty much crucial ...and once I started to think about it I got it down to about 5 - these are the only things that you need to concentrate on...once you have read through take a look at some of the big girl's blogs...you'll see that actually they don't have bundles of stuff on their blogs...but they do have all of these...
So here are my top things that your blog must have
1. About Page
There are all sorts of About Pages out there, and if you search on it there are many different tips and ideas for what to have on yours
Whatever blogging platform you use, adding an About Me Page is easy, quick and simple and will do everything to grow your blog.
I like a long-ish About Page, I am inherently nosy and I like to know a bit more about the person but at the least you should have on it your name and where you are located. I also think a photo is good too...over the last year or so I think this has become more important in blogging - if you are hesitant about that as I was, you can try using sunglasses or a behind shot until you get comfortable.
There is nothing worse than stumbling upon a new blog and going to find out more to only be faced with a piddly little one liner About Me Page...well there is something worse, not having one at all!
2. Contact Page
The chances are someone, somewhere will want to contact you and you will be surprised what lands in your inbox once you put yourself out there on the world wide web with a blog.
Many bloggers also use this page to include details for PR's/brands that may want to contact them and some bloggers put their stats on there too.
A short, to the point and simple Contact Page works really well...whenever I have wanted to contact another blogger I am often very busy and have limited time so I don't want to hang around sifting through information looking for an email address, so concise and clear ...
G'day lovely Beach Cottage lovelies.
So, yeah, so on a roll people, so on a roll.
I feel kinda home accessory wired right now.
I am always telling people, if anyone ever listens, that blogging is all about passion, not that sort of passion, but about passion that makes one tick.
Things like this make me tick tick boom.
I love finding things that suit my budget and let me treat my home but look amazing too.
So without further adieu I introduce you, ladies of the beach, to the blue vintage glasses that I have been stroking for about a week or two now...
These glasses are from a little boutique I sometimes happen upon, this boutique sells also pet accessories, carpet cleaner, bras and compost...it's quite unique though.
And, thanks to my friend Marnie (she blogs over here, go take a look at her praying position, interesting), who just so happens to be one day having me over for a lil' Greek dinner, has let me in on the fact that we call Kmart....The KMart...with an accent ....as in 'I love The KMart'...just like her MIL does. Oh yeah. Love that.
So I have had my eye on reproduction vintage glass blue wine glasses and being trying to find real true vintage blue glasses for like ever.
Oh yes I have spied them in Frenchy boutiques, I have lusted after them in stores that I shouldn't even enter and I have put them back pretty quickly in those shops with the hand-written price tags. C'mon, you know the ones.
And, though all of the above have tempted me, muchly, really, even with my wardrobe stashing skills I just thought that, actually, I'd rather be saving that casherooni for our next trip overseas..
Hello The KMart.
Tick Tick Boom
Vintage style blue wine glasses.
Do not come to my old place and think you might pick up one of these and smile with pleasure at their handblown quality, their weight, and be secretly jealous that my wine glasses cost more than your car...friend, that would not happen...these do not feel like that...indeed these in a funny way reminded me of my baby girl, she was a tiny little thing, with stick legs, the tinsssssssiest ankles and wrists you ever did see, she slept sideways in her cot wedged in between rolled up blankets and would only settle attached to Mr Beach Cottage or I or a (dirty) pj top of mine scrunched up under her nose...the first few times I picked her up to cuddle, being used to Honeymoon Baby who weighed in at 9lbs at birth and has never really stopped growing, I nearly threw her little bird-cum-rat down covered body over my shoulder.
These glasses are like that...be careful or you might lose your wine down the front of your shirt.
But oh baby, we are not talking picking up here, we are not talking quality, we are not talking house accessory snobbery.
Beach Cottage ladies, we are talking aesthetics.
And this is what I need in my cottage.
Blue vintage style glass, paired with coastal / nautical / beach stuff on my deck.
It's The KMart.
Tune in tomorrow, tomorrow, I have more budget foofing for your home, or maybe it will be the dress that wraps me up in supermarket-chic and makes me feel like me again.
Good Day to you my friends, wanna come hang out on my deck, talk house accessories, The KMart and drink some wine from blue glasses?

After much pondering in my own tub (a daily soaker here!) I am throwing two names into the pool, er, tub.
First, Kai that means ocean or sea salt water. And sounds Aussie to me, how you all might say, o”kay”.
The second is Coventina: Celtic name meaning “water goddess”. And…we all are coveting your new girl!
Your tub is lovely! You’re right, she was made for you! I can’t wait until the big reveal! Lucky girl!
Whoops, forgot to put my name on my thoughts for Kai and Coventina.
Over and out.
Mari
thanks Mari, Kai, yes, that sounds Aussie to me and I love what it means!
Coventina, wow…water goddess..that sounds fabulous…
the pup will be here soon with some luck xo
Oh I forgot the tub needs a name… how about Porche Lynn .. (pronounced Poor-sha Lynn) Cause after all she is made of porcelain.
Love the room tale in the middle! Like a fab post welcoming the new addition wasn’t already enough. Love the pics too. Well done teenage son. Well done.
Seriously fab post.
sarah I have always loved baths and you wanna know something else so does the hubby and my kids! we looked at a house when we first arrived here in mich and it was a cute old charmer loved it!!! til i went to the bathroom and was like no tub??? and then looked in the other bathroom i said none here either?? he said well how often do people really use the bath anyway???? i said well you dont know my family everysingle day!!!!! in fact i just took a nice long soak lit a million candles and soaked it up because kids were off with the hubby!!! shes a beauty this tub of yours!!!! i dont know why but for some odd reason the name violet popped tight into my head sounds british to me i guess!!!
cant wait to see the seaside bath all done up!!!
thanks kim! it seems a few people think Violet…does sound very British
yeah I have had the same thing said to me…I think that is weird to say tha ta bath wouldn’t get used….errrm I like really get my money’s worth outta mine….cheaper than therapy
x
Oh, I like Violet…and oh I do covet it
Violet is divine! As is the tub.
I LOVE tessa tub. Love.
I know what you mean about baths. It’s the thing I look forward to most when I stay away, but I haven’t had a bath in about a year. I’m going away with my Hubby at the end of this month. I’ll be making sure I squeeze in some tub time. For sure. x
what! no bath for a year! shocking! you must stink lol
hmmm Tessa Tub it might have to be…
thanks for stopping by Chantelle
x
How bout – Burley the Bathtub?
Or – Miss Bliss? Or Pierre ( Bring in that French feel to the bathroom!).
wouldn’t mind welcoming Pierce Brosnan into my bath, similar to Pierre
thanks Kylee x
Ah yes I too love a good soak…only trouble is we have a half bath…who on earth puts in a bath the size of a cot? I don’t even see the point. There’s no stretching out in it to allow all the kinks to work themselves out, no sirry you end up feeling so cramped that you feel worse than you did when you got in
Anyway that aside….I LOVE your new girl…I’d be chaining myself to her for sure.
xx
Tammi, I know what you mean! we were recently in a hotel with the strangest bath, it was shorter than normal and not as deep as normal…gave the most odd bathing experience..
I love my new girl xo
How about Beth? so close to bath….
yes Zosia, nice one
Sarah x
well done!! nothing like a bubble bath to escape the kidlets! gorgeous looking hot tub
She’s just lovely. Think I may even be inspired to pop in the tub! Can’t wait to see the reno! x
Boadicea the Bath? Just a nod to your heritage.
I suppose Bath Sidious is out of the question.
Oh, theres only one name that comes straight to mind for me…Betty.
BETTY THE BEEEEEEEAUUUUTIFUL BATHTUB!!
For some strange reason I think you should call it Bliss. Like it just popped up. I don’t know why I am telling this…might sound very out of place…but I had to tell you. And also listen to Adele while bliss-ing! Heard her? She is AWESOME Sarah.
*her. Sorry!
The name which came to my mind straight away was Lola as its glamourous, lady like and you will do a lit of lolling around in her!
Enjoy, it looks dreamy x x
Lovely name would be Elizabeth of course Lizzie for short !
awwww Sarah you are too cute! i love your aqua shorts and woohooo for the bath!
Oh I wish she was a boy tub… I would call it Jerome.
Girl….. I think we have the same bath! But I need a side on view…….. classic. Honestly we could almost swap houses and they would be so similar!!
Hope the renovations go smoothly xx
American baths tend to be hideous shallow horse troughs: no comfy slope to lean back against, water level at mid-thigh(lying down) -
I imported my bath from Canada after leaping into about fifty of the things, endless trouble, but I’m happy now, it is smooth and deep, and there’s a dear little ridge to rest my neck against…
I would call your bath The Vessel, but I bet you won’t.
hi Tricia, nice to hear from you!
ooh I wouldn’t like those American baths for sure…
The Vessel, hmmm…
Sarah
She looks like a Penelope to me!
I love that name Peneleope!
thanks Cheryl
Call her Adelaide…… or Addy for short….in honor of your visit where you needed a bath! It’s gorgeous.
yep sounds like a good one Kristin!
Beautiful bath. Name idea is: Halsey Taylor. Just cuz, and you get a middle name
Ps I wish I would break out of my techno phobia and step into blog linking world. Your photos of 31 days genius, btw!!
~Trixie
thanks Trixie…I am really enjoying 31 days!
x
Sarah, How ’bout Tatiana?? as in Tatty ( tatty old beach house) and Anna (“one who gives”..as I’m sure she will give you many hours of pleasure)..This one came to me at work today…Don’t know how you’ll ever decide. It’s been great fun reading all the ideas! Deb
oooh yeah, that suits me! thanks Deb x
Sarah
I’ve already made the suggestion of Tilly Devine but here’s another. What about Sheila, Aussie slang for a female?
alison
can’t wait to see the new girl in place! We (I!!!) could never own a home without a bath! Love the hotel story
And the bath? I’d call her Betsy…
it was a funny experience for me Sharon, never come across a hotel since without a bath though! x
Hi Sarah … She looks like a BERTHA to me bertha the bath !!! got one myself ( but I just call her friend) hello my old friend ….. can always count on her to be there when I need her !!!! enjoy ……
yep Sharran, they are very easy to count on baths….never let you down
x
I totally understand the whole bath thing. I love a good soak with a book and bubbles.
A few years ago I chose a unit to rent that was advertised as having a bath. Well, I obviously didn’t look properly during the inspection because after I moved in I found that the ‘bath’ was just the (very tiny) shower with a slightly sunken base that you could plug and the water came up just over your ankles. Total disappointment.
The only good thing to come out of it was that when my little nieces stayed over they loved having their ‘bath shower’ and actually looked forward to their visit because of it. Kids are very easily pleased.
Good luck on your renovations.
P.S great choice for your bath, she’s a beauty.
thanks Kelly, ooouch that was a mistake to make lol x
I think Bianca would be very fitting ; ) She’s lovely!
thanks, ooh I likey Bianca xo
I christen thee Her Ladyship.
How bout Bubble the Bathtub? I have the same (similar) hard to tell from pics, tub. Nothing better than escaping with a glass of vino and a candle – ahhhh! Can’t wait to see more
Kelly
My new home!!!!!
It looks Fantastic! and comfy
Hi – I love logging at and reading your blog!
I really love that rope ball you have hanging on your door knob…….what is that called? Did you purchase it or make it?
Well shoot.,….meant to say LOOKING at
I love my tub.
