G’day Beach Cottage ladies, so, shall we have a Fashion Friday What I Wore on Thursday post?  I think that might be nice.

what I wore wednesday

Now.

Ladies.

beach cottage coastal fashion

First of all, lets talk about THE SKIRT (below and full post here)

A LOT of you liked the Beach Cottage skirt ..if only I had bought up all the stripe maxi skirts on sale at Supre and then re-sold them to all of those of you that emailed me about them…I would be rich rich rich then!

I think I got back to most of you on it, I hope so, but there were heaps and heaps of them at my local Supre when I bought mine, apparently though they flew out of the door.

So lots of you messaged me and some of you sent me photos wearing said skirt..here’s what the Beach Cottage Facebook girls said

Michelle Leanne Barrington said ‘perfect for wearing while pregnant’ , Carly couldn’t get one  ’I went specifically to my local Supre today to buy it – none left apparently :( ‘   Séverine McCarthy said ‘ Tried to buy it online b/c I live in San Diego CA, no more left ;-( Will try EBay!’,  Isobelle Carlton ‘Just picked mine up $15 at Hornsby’, Helen Thoms i’m wearing mine right now!

Judy Pemberton said ‘wore mine yesterday and packing it for a trip to Sydney tomorrow!’ and Rebecca Clarke told me ‘I was down the southcoast on holidays and had just read ur blog where u were modelling the gorgeous stripes and that morning saw 2 ladies wearing it and thought i wonder if they were beachcottageblog followers! ‘

Yay!!! Go Beach Cottage Girls!

Here’s the lovely Norisah, complete with sun hat on the way to the beach in hers

beach cottage decorating blog

there’s Anna with the skirt in grey (I bought this one too…love!)

beach cottage stripe block maxi skirt

and here’s Michelle, with the the dress version of the skirt…yeah she has a dream job…not only make-up artist to the stars (find her website here)…but working on the beach too…hello!  and yes I am going to join her for a shoot one day and yes I have bribed her to give me a makeover, woot woot

there’s Sally, she’s on the beaches too…she rocks it very very well, doesn’t she ladies? …bring it on baby

and here’s the navy one from The Clampetts, rocking with orange shoes from Emerson

supre maxi skirt

here’s Isabelle…(she blogs here) she’s rocking it in a few different ways…I love it with a jacket, I am going to try this….

Good huh?  To see those $20 skirts out and about in the Aussie summer….real girl power ;-)

So recently I had to write an interview thing about my ‘style’, yikes.. quite what is that?  I have no idea….

Well, I think it is dressed-up beachy casual…dressed up with, mostly, big chunky bags & baskets, lots of bracelets, nice big sunnies to protect the eyes & hide the wrinkles & no make-up, plus always a scarf…I go a scarf even when the mercury is red hot.

beach house blog

I have never been a girl to spend a lot of money on sunnies, for many reasons, firstly all that boring mortgage/three kiddos stuff, second I about throw them around and have them everywhere, stashed under car seats, on the deck, about six pairs in any given handbag at any given time, on the hall table, in the beach bag…you name it I have a pair there, ready and waiting.  Mr Beach Cottage is the exact opposite to me, he likes himself a nice pair of good quality sunglasses, that he looks after, and keeps in a case.  Ahem.  He says that my 101 pairs of cheapies would mount up to the same price as his one good pair.  Yeah I know I did raise my eyebrows.  I couldn’t throw one good pair around, could I?

Which leads me to these beauties from CottonOn.

These are just right…big to cover up afore mentioned stuff, the correct Australian sun blocking requirements, plus with a nice cut and good shape

what I wore

So, since I have been in Australia, I have been a Super Cheapo Sunnies shopper…and I tell you it’s no mean feat to try and find Throw-in-Your-Bag Sunnies that are plain, chic and unadorned with various types of things, including, but not limited to…silver bling, gold bling, silver letters, gold letters, inter-twined C’s, sparkles, all manner of glitter and sparkly things, big flashes of colour down the side, random fake branding and or flourescent bright things…

beach cottage blog

I am always on the lookout for good sunnies without all those bits and pieces so generously added, to chuck in my bag

and the other day, I found the ultimate

at last, someone somewhere made a pair of easy sunnies with none of the above…just plain, a bit chunky, simple, classic, chic and easy style

hello CottonOn two for twenty dollars sunnies – named Nicole, I presume inspired by Miss Ritchie…

Nicole I have you in many ways now

You are in my bag

in my car

on my deck

and in my life

beach house blog

And the bracelet bit…well I have been collecting bracelets and bangles for a while…I like to mix up plain bangles with simple lines with a few beads and things…I don’t wear too much other jewellery for a few reasons, one I always lose it and don’t take care of it and two it often irritates me…and living here in this climate I prefer not to have too much stuff hanging around me…and I rarely would wear things dangling about my person…it never ever looks good on me…I always end up looking like Gypsy Rose Lea

but I like a bit of a jangle and jingle, I think its girlie and lovely and happy…once one of my kiddos said they knew it was me coming because they heard the jangling ahead of me…other people have a signature scent (though I have one of those too), I have a signature jingle…

… things on my arms work…however I am pretty fussy with them…I LOVE anything with a ribbon involved but often that comes with other el-tacko stuff attached too…

hence when I saw the green/aqua one, I nigh-on elbowed some woman out of the way so I could salvage two…I always buy more than one of something if I like it…sometimes with bracelets, much like sunnies there’s too much dangly bits going on, too much bling, too much colour….but I thought this was right up my Aqua Stage Alley…

I like the little heart dangly bit…it reminds me of my daughter…it says Faith…I wish I had her confidence and disposition…she gives me Faith in life…

I spied this in a little local shop…to be quite honest I had sneaked away from everyone in these school holidays somehow and taken myself off for a coffee, a breather and a bit of a mooch…I certainly wasn’t expecting to do the Bracelet Dance…

I adore the shop I found it in ...Lulu Loves Paris …it has a French cafe style chair outside, and always a fresh vase of flowers…the clothes are lovely and you can always pick up a sweet little gift for someone without it breaking the bank…plus they’ll gift wrap it for you all prettily…and it’s one of those shops, that even if you don’t find anything or buy anything, it doesn’t really matter…it’s a Mooching Shop, I love those, don’t you?

what I wore

The other bracelet is from Seed.. I heart this shop too, it’s Australian and I love to support Australian shops & brands…they have some beautiful stuff in here…I love to shop the Seed sale…and if I still had littlies, in particular a little girl to dress, it would be dangerous to leave me anywhere near the place for too long!

You can see a bit more of the pearly bracelet in my first ever vlog…brought to you all the way from Sydney’s beaches, by a Aussie Pommie girl…I hope you like it…it was fun for us doing it!

so it’s over and out from me with Beach Cottage Coastal TV ;-) …..rock that scarf, rock those bracelets, rock those beach bags, rock those sunnies, rock that messy up-do buns Beach Cottage girls…for too long in my life I had someone very negative telling me I and just about everything in life was not good enough…now I am forty-is-the-new-thirty and I’m rocking my life

…wanna know a secret?  cripes it’s soooo much fun doing this…

I love your fashion blogs. They are so achievable and such a shake up for me to try fashion new ideas.

My daughter manages a mooching type shop. Such a good time waster but sometimes a money pit! I tend to do bulk shopping expeditions and then nothing for weeks. My attitude is if I fall in love with something instantly, especially clothes, I buy it. Even if the item is expensive the “cost per wear” then is low.

PS Can any BCers please tell me where I can find sea glass on the NSW Illawarra/Shoalhaven/south coast beaches?

    • alison says:

PPS Sarah, is it possible to see your first ever BC blog post?

    • sarah says:

I can’t help you on the sea glass…but here it is on the more sheltered beaches on the harbour side, I don’t know if that is the same everywhere??

I am kinda right into buying bits and bobs of clothes right now…still mainly with shorts and jeans….same as me if I fall in love with it I buy it…though I never spend lots….well unless it is a pair of shoes or bag

  39. It is so funny hearing someone’s voice after you have been reading their words for a while…I guess you kind of think you can ‘hear’ someone talk when you read what they have written, but the reality is very different, lol, sorry! I have lately become kind of concious of my voice now we have moved from NZ to Aussie – here in Oz, I apparently have an ‘accent’ haha. And I get teased for it, which is par for the course between Aussies and Kiwis, so no biggie. Sometimes I wonder if I should ‘try’ to tone down my ‘accent’ but I have been speaking like me for 40 years, and couldn’t change even if I wanted to, it just isn’t natural! I met a lovely Scottish man here in Port Macquarie yesterday at the Sallies…he asked me if I was from Queensland (we bought our car in QLD and haven’t changed the plates yet). I said no, I was from NZ and told him I could tell he was from Scotland (I love the Scottish accent, my Grandma was Scottish and apparently as a child I could do a perfect one!). Anyway the lovely Scottish man has been here in Oz for 44 years and sounded to me like he arrived yesterday. It was a lovely reminder to remain true to my heritage while at the same time embracing my future, even if the people around me do talk funny ;)

Sara, you sound lovely :-) . I’m so glad we get to hear you as well as read from you. The outfits all look great. Thanx for the heads up on the sunnies. I think just like you in regards to cheap sunnies. However, went with my husband to Tiffany here in Perth and fell in love with the sunnies they had on show behind a glass cabinet with a gaurd standing close by.
I am off to Cotton On instead. Have been inside all week with our bamboo flooring going down so am looking forward to be out with people and shops and bought coffee:-)
Just to let you know we had our bathrooms renovated about a year ago and everyone has strict instuctions on how they are to clean the shower recess as soon as they have finished their showers, Loads of grumbles but it is getting done to a point. It does pay off, ’cause the shower hubby and I use looks really good, just like coming into a hotel. (though from some TV programs I have seen on how hotel rooms a cleaned it does make one shudder) but you know what I mean. It will be worth all the mess. If you are like me you will walk in quite often once it’s done just to get a look at it!!!
