G’day Beach Cottage ladies, hope the weekend was good to you, this morning checking in with some DIY. Yep my life is so fantastically exciting that I get to look after sweet puppies and take photos of DIY all weekend…oh yeah baby, just so happening around here.
So remember I said that the Summer House was finished, well that wasn’t strictly true, because the outside wasn’t painted and I had forgotten the floor, I think I was just so excited by the possibility of filling it with things and sitting out there that I jumped the gun a tad.
…so at the weekend we got to it very nearly being done & dusted.
A few options for the floor, but we went for the same paint we used on the deck and I will get a rug for it too…a few reasons for this decision…firstly it was easy, we didn’t want to have to get a tradie in here, secondly I wanted it to be easy to clean and thirdly I wanted the colours to sorta flow through from the deck to out here…
So the colour is a putty grey, no surprise there I suppose, though I have found some polka dot putty flooring, be still my heart, sadly it’s not in this country and am working out a way to get it shipped here…haven’t told Mr Beach Cottage this yet, will just slip it into the equation if and when I get my hands on it…let’s just say it’s to die for but let’s just say he won’t think the same if he has to do it ;-)
You can see here what the floor was like…we scraped it and sanded it down first
I didn’t do any of this painting yesterday, but I did think you might want to see my new skinny jeans…in black…I feel like a grungy dude in them…bought them on a whim and are soooo comfy and have lived in them ever since, hello black is the new denim…
There were a couple of bits in the eaves that needed patching up too
It’s a very sunny spot out here, in fact in the deep, dark, harsh, Sydney Winter you can sit here sunning yourself…indeed outside here I grew Summer herbs right through the year it’s so warm…
I am very pleased with how the little deck turned out, it’s not big enough to sit on really and my initial plans of pots and things have been scaled down firstly because now these doors are opening right back and secondly because it looks kinda nice bare…know what I mean?
the floor is looking good….this is after the first coat, we think it will take at least three
a few more pics here if you want some more
I’ll be off for now then, I’ll be the one knee deep in DIY and puppies …
That’s it from me Beach Cottage ladies, what do you think of this little romantic Summer House notion of mine? Good?
Sarah

Its looking good, you can see how the sun hits it already, lucky you! Can’t wait to see it all finished and dressed! x
I’m number 1….woohoo!
you are haha!
thanks I can’t wait to dress it up either x
So sweet! I may have missed an earlier post on this, but what are you going to use your darling summer house for? Hopefully not a man cave? Please say ladie’s retreat.
It’s coming along nicely, Sarah! I can’t wait to see it when you’ve foofed it up a little inside :)
it sure needs foofing!
Outdoor rooms are the best. Looking forward to seeing it all dolled up…for the girls.
yeah I am loving the idea of it…can’t wait to get it ready! x
Love it! Yummy jeans too – where did you get them? x
Emerson, BigW, not the $9 ones but a whopping $19….tried them on thinking fit would be hideous, my strange shape is never good in jeans, but they are not bad…not in the same league as Mavi but at $19 for a coloured jean I can cope xo
…I know you have a big dubs in Noosa cos I spent time in it when I was up there in the floods ;-) x
Nice one! Will take a peep this week, saw some lovely maxi skirts in Kmart that ive been pondering over, for all of $15! should of just snapped them up at the time!
Sweetie – Im sure you dont have a ‘strange shape’ just there are lots of strange shaped jeans out there!
xxxx
I know that always happens when you don’t buy something…wish I had bought like 10 pairs of the 10 dollar jeans they now don’t make any longer
yes of course it’s the jeans xooxo
Looks fab – What is the putty grey colour? And I lurve that panelling wallpaper, I need to get me some of that too!
it’s an individual mix x
looking good!!!!
I hope it isn’t too glarey with all the white walls, and you have to be in there with sunglasses on!
Next will be window coverings, lol!
nah it will be fine once I get a few vintage pieces in there x
Excellent choice with the grey there Sarah… It is coming along nicely… I agree with keeping that little deck clear but you could put some really large pots filled with lavender or hydrangers or even more herbs (I am thinking thyme and rosemary for some reason) flanking the sides of the deck if there is room…So those steps and entry are framed by gorgeous plants… Hee hee that was the image that popped into my mind when I saw the pictures… How true about black being the new denim… I can’t wait receive my new pair of black skinnies, should arrive sometime this week! At the moment though I am waering my burgandy ones to death! They seem to go with almost everything in my wardrobe!
yes if only I can find some great pots x
Oh man…I want a summer house too!!
Can’t wait to see how you style it Sarah :)
x

Ooh your Summer house is looking fantastic, love the floor colour. I have to share my summer house “aka chicken coop” but they have let me put some bunting up and vintagy finds around xxx I will keep dreaming! Meanwhile I will just soak up yours, thanks Sarah x
Hi Sarah
Your sun room is looking fantastic and I bet you can’t wait to foof it up and finish it off…….have you decided whether you will paint or stain the steps??
Michelle
yes the paints are staying natural….assuming they will fade to a pale grey though x
Lovely summer house. will be nice to se how you decorate the inside later. Your blog is wonderful. Love your style :)
Yes, nice. Very nice in fact. So, what’s going inside? a tub? a desk? very intrigued. :)
a desk and beachy chair I think!
Love the putty floor colour, although polka dots sound fab!
Can’t wait to see what you do with this little oasis!
It’s really coming along and I can’t wait to get to the foofing stage! I know if I”m impatient you must REALLY be wanting to get to that stage!
How inviting does that look! I can see you, puppy dog in tow, spending hours there – because of course you have so many free hours !!!! xx
I will be making some Glennie!
Putty is the color of the exterior of my house…love it so much!! Cannot wait to see what you do with the interior of your lovely little summer house! The black skinny jeans are great…in fact, you just reminded me to get mine out and wear them pronto!! How’s Barley?
Barley is doing well, he’s got quite a little character and very sleepy and cosy, so i guess he fits in here very well!
One word … DIVINE!
It looks fab. How do painted floorboards stand up to a bit of wear and tear?
I was thinking of painting the floorboards in my livingroom but I’m not sure if it would wear well?!
well we have the back deck with a painted floor, because it was orangey/red when we moved in…to be honest it holds up really well and is high traffic, there are a few scratches etc, but that is the look here anyway, I think if you are fussy it woudn’t be for you…
…also you can just use a sealer over the paint and I that will pretty much mean it is fine…I have floorboards painted white in my study with white floor paint, no sealer and they are good
hth x
Your backyard girlie shed is looking ab fab. I enjoy each instalment.

Hi Sarah!
Looking very good so far (I’m so jealous – I’d love one of these in my backyard, unable to hear kids etc out there!)
The colour is perfect too!
I’m really digging black (very black) skinnies at the moment, I bought a pair from Just Jeans a couple of weeks ago (called second skins) which are so comfy, stretchy and fit nicely. I would definitely recommend :)
Look forward to more progress posts!!
Omg!!!… luv it luv it luvit …..sooooo jealous!!!
It looks gorgeous already! What a transformation… it’s inducing a serious case of summer-house envy! I love that your’e so hands-on and busy transforming your surroundings.
