So, while I am truly no seamstress I like to dabble here and there when I want to make something for the Beach Cottage and this bucket bag idea was something that I have seen around and about and wanted to have a go at doing for myself.
It was oh-so-much easier than you might think and took me less time than I would have thought.
1. Cut your fabric. You want a rectangle.
for the length triple the height you want the finished bucket/bag
for the width double how wide you want the finsidhed bucket/bag
for example:
you want a 20cm square bag – length of rectangle = 60cm width=-40cm
2. Now cut another one for the lining
3. Fold the rectangles in half, fold to the bottom and cut out a square to each corner
It will look like this when opened up.
4. Now right sides together of your outer layer and pinch together the corners of the cut out square to form the base of the bag and zap with sewing machine.
Do the same to the lining.
5. Now place the right sides of both the lining and the outer together, the lining inside the outer and sew around the top of the bag, leaving a small gap.
6. Pull the bag through this gap and stitch up the hole – in posh sewing circles called top stitching I believe, but beach cottage style just scoot over it and back a couple of times. Then fold over the top so it doesn’t flop about…
Thats it!
Send me a photo if you make one, abeachcottageblog@gmail.com, I’d love to see

thank you so much for sharing… I love your site, and your wonderful insight and design… now if I could only learn how to stencil my own burlap… that would be classic!
