So, let us start with a before

Here’s what it looked like after we painted it white (it was electric blue)  and as the work was beginning (you can read the whole before and what it was like here)

and this was the outside when it was nearing to being finished

I really don’t know what the problem was with me getting going on this, well I do actually, it’s called not enough time in the day and the fact that undressed it was totally fine…but now it’s a room and feels part of our old cottage…

Another thing aiding the procrastinating was it’s a very awkward shape, like every other room in this cottage, and I wanted to get the ‘perfect’ pieces of furniture in here and makes sure everything fit nicely and worked well…

At the weekend I thought stuff that, I am going to work with what I have got, shop the house and get this done without spending any money.  There is a certain male in this household who is extremely happy with that decision.  Just call me a thrifty housewife. abeachcottage coastal flower decorating abeachcottage.com

I wanted vintage things in here and all my usual stuff, nautical stripes, coastal blues and lovely lovely whites…I did have a brief fling with yellow too but decided to keep that to flowers.

Here are some of the things I gathered….yep my little photobomber helper was with me….

He just can’t take the pace of DIY though….

Mr Beach Cottage was so very excited to part of this project and doing DIY on his Sunday afternoon.  He says hi.

I dressed up the rustic / beachy sofa with cushions (and will be adding more as I come across them, I am looking for some nice linen grey ones, I have seen some but they were $120 each), put the pot cupboard I recently painted white in the corner, added a lamp…

…used double layer curtains that I have had for years on the window…on the other side used a blind and may be adding curtains there too, but for now didn’t want it too fussy…

Popped a few of my fave things on the desk to inspire me when I come out here…loving the desk lamp still…

Added these white shelves in the corner above the desk and layered a few vintage mirrors for some light bouncing and some depth…

Popped up a row of hooks that we made from an old skirting board found on the side of the road – I love hooks to store things and add a bit of feature as I am not huge on art….so easy to change bits of bobs around on here too….

Used the old chair left in it’s natural state to balance the errrrm amount of white…

And a coir rug for some rustic on the floor….

Not bad for an afternoon’s work and the budget was a grand total of zero…

Vignette, vignetting and Beach cottage news

abeachcottage nautical coastal blog abeachcottage.com

Hello Beach Cottage Lovelies, I hope you are well.  This might be the last vignette you see from me for a while, I did this for a photography still life project thingy and thought I would post it here too.

You see it might be the last coastal vignette for a while (not including tablescaping though) because I am about to rip this old cottage to pieces…I don’t mean literally I mean having a move around…I need a change around, it’s been coming for a while and next week I have a couple of tradies here to put some new things in and to add the 9, yes 9 new light fittings I have finally bought for this old cottage and a fan for our bedroom – always a really good idea to put a fan in once the heat of the Summer has gone and Winter is but weeks away.  Just call me organised.

So for this vignette it was meant to be something that says you, inspires you but doesn’t move…for me that’s white stuff and a pop of colour right?…had to throw in a scarf for good measure, a pair of Hunter’s and a little smattering of old furniture that’s been given a new life – that’s the recipe, the result …. coastal vintage style…

News on the blog? …we are still working on a few changes here, including a new front page with spots to highlight things I think are nice and a slider for photos…. sorry if this is a problem but all will be clear soon…I know some of you weren’t able to read the comments and others were having trouble with the layout on tablets (thanks to all those who have emailed me) – all is hopefully being fixed soon, oh and Barley’s new place is on the way, having a few teething problems with getting that in place with WordPress too…

I am flying off now to start moving things around – yesterday arvo I started this with putting bits and bobs away, it truly is amazing how many homey things I have collected over the years…the new me is going for an extremely pared back minimalist look with black bedding, those fake Eames chairs and wait for it…chevrons.

Are you in for that look??  Haha, not really my new lights are kinda coastal and ummm much larger than I thought they would be in this tiny old cottage, but they are vintage style and hoping they will look good.

OK I’m off, thanks for stopping by – we are arranging to see properties for A Beach Cottage II today, I know I spoke about this months ago, but life took over, one of the cottages we looked at then is still on the market, not sure if that is a good sign or a bad sign but it’s definitely exciting!

Oh and finally in other news, tomorrow I am getting all my hair chopped off, a fringe and a new colour, hello, change is definitely in the air…if it doesn’t look too bad I’ll stick it on Instagram….hoping all these changes don’t run to the other half, haha, oops no he’s a keeper

Beach Cottage coastal vintage mirror makeover

coastal style blog beachy mirror makeover abeachcottage.com

Hello Beach Cottage ladies, well this morning I have the mirror makeover zooshed up with a bit of Beach Cottage coastal vintage style to show you.

As you know I have loved coastal vintage for a very long time, as soon as we got our own little Australian cottage I was there all the way – mixing up lots of white with coastal vintage things – I love to collect old vintage oars, seaglass, old ocean-liner trunks and suitcaases and love lots of mirrors leaning around for gorgeous light.
