More BC

G’day, my name is Sarah.  I live with my oh-so-wonderful husband Mr Beach Cottage and the Beach Cottage Crew (my three children)… in a run-down cottage by the sea on the beaches of Sydney,  Australia, with a big old fig tee out the back, stripped wooden floors, whitewashed benches propped around and a jumble of vintage furniture.

I roam around the beaches treasure hunting for vintage things and when at home spend my days painting, decorating, feathering my nest and planting things .

And when I’m not knee-deep in white paint and beach vintage things I am wallowing in the tub, pottering in the kitchen with home-cooked family meals and lounging around drinking beer on my white sofa.

I love adirondack chairs, wooden floors, peroni, seashells, vintage furniture, vanilla, coffee, old linen, sitting on the front porch listening to the rain, Frenchy homeware stores, white wooden shutters, pots of Australian tea, vintage quilts and driftwood.

I’m so glad you came by my old cottage near the sea…here’s a bit more about this old place…

We spent hours searching for an old cottage and found her in a very sad state a few years ago and spent lots of time getting her looking presentable again…made the best of her vintage features and whipped away those that weren’t so attractive…we washed her in a coat of coastal white , stripped back her floors and filled her with pretty vintage things.
We are now moving onto stage two of the renovations and she’s getting there..most of the real hard stuff is done now but next comes French doors, a bathroom, a front porch, driveway, perhaps a pool, garden, summer house, and possibly a second level to go.
But for now we ramble around in this place on the beaches and do what we can with what we have…
I love my coastal chic – a clean crisp palette of whites and neutrals, a heap of battered old furniture, a vintage and nautical vibe with a healthy dose of  frenchy and cottage thrown in for good measure…
It’s my mission to live in a comfy home and to do it on a budget and by making-over what I’ve got … scouring around beachside sources for old furniture and painting them, mostly, white.
My life sure ain’t perfect, my blog shows the good bits, however, behind the scenes, it’s often CHAOS ’round here, my kids do lots that keeps us on our toes and I am still amazed how the cottage can look pretty good and then within 10 minutes of the kidlets being in it looks like a whirlwind came through
I started this blog a few years ago to document my journey with my old fixer-upper cottage by the sea – tatty, in need of love and just waiting for a new family.
Well we sure gave it some love and here you’ll find the chronicles of decorating it on a budget, painting everything that doesn’t move white and a casual lifestyle by the sea…

LOVE your site…love love love all the white…I just bought a lakehouse which will soon be my retirement home and want to create the same feel you have created in your cottage. Thanks for documenting all the wonderful things you have done!
